24-Hour Emergency Medical Care for Children

文摘   2024-09-11 17:32   北京

United Family operates three 24-hour emergency rooms across Beijing that offer pediatric services all day, every day. Whether at Beijing United Family Hospital (the main hospital at Jiangtai Road), United Family Women's & Children's Hospital (DTU), or United Family Hospital of Integrative Medicine (DCU), we're able to handle any pediatric emergencies you may have. We'll answer a few common questions parents have below.

Do I have to call the ER before I go?

If your child needs urgent medical attention, calling the ER before coming may delay the care. If you have time, you may call when you are on your way to the hospital so that the ER knows what to prepare for, but this is not required.

Call our 24-hour emergency hotline (010-5927-7120 for the main hospital, 010-5682-2999 for DTU, and 010-8529-3120 for DCU). You may also call these numbers if your child has a medical incident and you're not sure if it's an emergency.

What kinds of medical emergencies can United Family’s Pediatric ER handle?

Our Pediatric ER, particularly the well-trained and experienced pediatricians, can tackle practically all pediatric emergencies, from simple cases to complicated emergency problems.

We are fortunate to have very competent and skilled nurses to assist the pediatricians in the ER.

In what emergencies should I take my child to BJU’s Pediatric ER?

If you feel uncomfortable, you can always bring your child to the ER, whether it's an emergency or not. This is especially helpful outside of normal clinic hours.

What are some of the most common reasons kids need to go to the ER?

The most common conditions seen in the ER are fevers, seizures, vomiting, diarrhea, rashes, coughs, colds, and accidents.

What symptoms do you recommend all parents look out for that show their child may need urgent medical attention?

Cases of accidental falls or head trauma, persistent vomiting, loss of consciousness, seizures, or even an unwitnessed accident may necessitate a visit to the ER. Obvious evidence of lacerations or bleeding requires a visit to the ER.

Are there any basic first-aid skills that you recommend all parents learn to help their kids in case of a medical emergency?

The most important thing is to get your child to the emergency room as quickly as possible. We also offer first-aid classes for parents so they can assist in an emergency. Here are some other tips:

  • Always maintain the child’s ABC (airways, breathing, circulation);

  • For children experiencing a seizure, try to use a tongue guard or something similar to avoid biting their tongue;

  • For bleeding/lacerations, apply direct pressure to the wound with a bandage;

  • For choking episodes, do the Heimlich maneuver; and

  • For neck and back injuries, try to immobilize the child.
