Welcome to Cultivating Health, an opportunity to explore various topics in the context of holistic health and well-being. Each week Melissa Rodriguez, our Patient Outreach and Education Manager, will host a free online session that aims to bring greater awareness to the ways we can take our health to the next level. Each session will include self-care practices such as breathing exercises, mindfulness techniques, and meditation. You will leave the session feeling empowered, motivated, and with a sense of tranquility.
·What?·
As World Mental Health Day (October 10) is fast approaching, Cultivating Health will dedicate the month of October to mental health topics. It is estimated that in 2024, mental health problems affect more than 800 million people worldwide and that nearly half of the world's population will develop a mental health disorder at some point in their lifetime. We also know that during and after the pandemic the overall prevalence of mental distress increased sharply, and that young people are being increasingly affected by emotional, relational, and behavioural problems.

At the same time, stigma against the mentally ill continues to
affect the lives of millions of patients and their families, parity in service
provisions between physical health and mental health is still a long way away.
Equitable access to treatment and services varies hugely by country, with many
regions of the world being under-resourced. In October, we will cover a wide range
of interesting topics related to mental health and mental illness, emotional
stability, healthy relationships, and cultivating mental health across the life
span.
During Tuesday’s session, Dr. Micol Ascoli will join Melissa as a special guest. Dr. Ascoli is a British-Italian cultural psychiatrist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience. Trained in Italy, she moved to the UK in 2004, working in both public and private health services for 16 years. Now, she leads the Mental Health Department at Beijing United Family Hospital & Clinics. Dr. Ascoli has extensive expertise in clinical and transcultural psychiatry, psychotherapy, service quality improvement, and leadership, offering compassionate and comprehensive care to her patients.
Dr Ascoli will take us through widely spread misconceptions about mental illness that jeopardize self-actualization, social connections, success in life, and access to available effective treatments. Join us to learn more!
