最常见的搭配是:take sth as a given。
比如:Sandra will be at least 15 minutes late – that’s a given.
The concept is taken as a given in social studies.
You can take it as a given that there will be champagne at the wedding.
I thought it was a given.
But instead, I'm here wasting time explaining why accessibility is a big deal when it should be a given.
It really doesn’t surprise me that someone gifted in math, is not good in high school academics. I feel like a lot of good math talent slips through the cracks.
🪴 slip through the cracks
slip through the cracks从缝隙中溜走,即「被漏掉」(when somebody/something slips through the net, an organization or a system fails to find them and deal with them)。
slip through the cracks
英式说法更接近中文,叫作slip through the net。
It really doesn’t surprise me that someone gifted in math, is not good in high school academics. I feel like a lot of good math talent slips through the cracks.
In a class of 30 children, it is easy for one to slip through the net and learn nothing.
We tried to contact all former students, but one or two slipped through the net.
How inspirational! This just shows that amazing talent can often go unnoticed or under appreciated because of things like not having enough resources, opportunities, or recognition, especially in non-traditional settings.
The crucial, and underappreciated, players in the future of oil are consumers.
cultivate the under-appreciated skill of letting go培养放手这一被低估的技能
What? You underappreciated me?
It's possible, verging on probable, that I have underappreciated your contributions.
Your concent is cover for a very clever businessman to expand into an enormous untapped market for pornography to sell cigarettes and alcohol and automobiles to women.
And you're far too old to be called a prodigy anymore.
🪴 master
《中国日报》的正文里就用到了master这个词:a 17-year-old math master。
🪴 secure这里是动词,表示「获得,得到」(to get or achieve something that will be permanent, especially after a lot of effort),尤其是指经过努力后获得某物。
再比如:secure a good job找到好工作
Mr. B, what do you think this gallary. Ms.Li secured it for you.
I have finally secured the purchase of Randalls estate.
很多同学会写成:a middle school student who doesn't have any systematic training
本科学历的女性:women with a bachler's degree
那些BMI指数达30及以上的人:those with a body-mass index (BMI) of 30 or more
But the resources she can get
同样常用来修饰形容词比较级的副词还有:a lot, much, far, a great deal, considerably等等,大家打包一起记一记。
🪴
head
表示「做到,获得成功」(to be successful at something)。
Listen, I don't think I'm gonna make it to the wedding.
When we got married, he swore he wouldn't make it to 70.
Honey, don't worry, she's gonna make it on time.
Those who, despite the odds, make it to elite universities often feel socially isolated.
