最近批改考研班作文，经常看到同学用一个词：broaden sb's horizons。
这个词本身没有任何问题，但很多同学使用时都犯了同样一个错误，把broaden my horizons 写成了broaden my horizon。
同学们注意，horizons 必须加s，以复数形式出现，才表示「眼界」。
比如：broaden my horizons, broaden her horizons。
其次，这个短语实在已经烂大街，用在作文里不会给你减分，但也不会为你加分。

如果要表达在某一方面开阔了眼界，我们还可以在前面加上形容词：cultural（文化上的）， musical（音乐上的）, intellectual （知识上的）等，比如：
significantly expand one's cultural horizons
significantly widen one's intellectual horizons
我们来看个《纽约时报》的例子：
我们有责任拓宽他们的知识视野，把他们最终培养成各行各业的领导者。
Attending lectures outside their chosen major can significantly widen students' intellectual horizons and enrich their educational experience.
参加专业外的课程可以大大拓宽学生的知识视野，丰富他们的教育经历。
expand one's perspective 便指「拓宽某人的视角」。 如果后面要加什么方面的视野，用介词on。
Travel alters and expands our perspective.
旅行改变并拓宽了我们的视野。
我们也可以连用两个动词：
sth broadens and expands sb's perspective.
举个外刊里的例子：
For this to happen, it requires all of us to broaden and expand our perspective on what diversity really means.
要做到这一点，需要我们所有人拓宽和扩大我们的视野，了解多元化的真正含义。
从这句话里我们还可以提炼出一个引出解决措施的句式：
For this to happen, it requires us to do sth.
我们联系校园活动话题造个句：
This event aims to bring students from different departments together and foster a strong sense of community. For this to happen, it requires us to coordinate volunteers, organize engaging activities, and promote the event effectively. With everyone’s efforts, we can make this activity an unforgettable experience for all students.
我们也可以说：
give sb an expanded perspective 便指「扩大某人的视野」，用上了过去分词expanded作前置定语，显得更「高级」一点。
我们联系「读书」话题造个句：
Reading books can give us an expanded perspective and help us to learn to see the world from as many different viewpoints as possible.
sth gives us a unique / fresh perspective on sth. 指「某事物给某人一个独特 / 新颖的视角」。
deepen 为动词，指「加深，加强」。deepen sb's understanding of sth 指「加深某人对某事物的理解」。
比如《经济学人》一篇关于科技的文章有这样一句话：
Much of today’s innovation aims to deepen understanding of existing science rather than exploring fresh terrain.
当今的许多创新目的在于加深对现有科学的理解，而不是探索新的领域。
我们联系课外活动话题造个句：
Engaging in extracurricular activities can greatly deepen students' understanding of teamwork, as they learn to collaborate with peers from a wide variety of backgrounds.
我们也可以把动词deepen，根据不同的语境，换成 broaden, expand, enrich 等词。
sth significantly expands one's (intellectual) horizons. sth significantly widens one's (cultural) horizons. sth broadens and expands sb's perspective (on sth). sth gives sb an expanded perspective (on sth). sth gives sb a unique / fresh perspective (on sth). sth deepens / broadens / expands / enriches sb's understanding of sth.
