Every human thought, and every human action, is based in either love or fear.

The one mindset that's changing my life.

Not long ago, I came across a quote that said the biggest risk in life is to take no risks at all. And for the past few months, you can say I've been taking that advice to heart. I started traveling again, made new friends, got around to doing a lot of things I said I would do.
🪴 come across sb / sth
Not long ago, I came across a quote that said ...
Not long ago, I came across a quote that said "Edit your life frequently and ruthlessly. It's your masterpiece after all."

🪴 take sth to heart
take sth to heart
take sth to heart 感到不快」(to be very upset by something that somebody says or does)‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
Whatever father said to you, don't take it to heart.
Don't take it to heart.

🪴  get around to sth / doing sth
绕了一圈儿回来做某事,指「抽出时间来做某事」,完美替换find the time to do sth。
I meant to phone her yesterday, but I never
got around to it.
表示「挤出时间见某人,挤出时间做某事」(to give time to sb / sth, although you are very busy)
比如:If you come this afternoon the doctor will try to squeeze you in.
Well, if we are going to squeeze a wedding in, ...
Do you think that you could squeeze us in?

02

But through the past few months there has been one idea that has truly changed the way that I've been approaching life lately and that is the idea “Say yes now, figure it out later"
🪴 change the way (that) ...
the way that ...
the way in which ...
the way ...
Love the way you lie
I love the way you lie.
= I love the way
that you lie.
= I love the way
in which you lie.

The internet
has changed the way we live our lives, do business and entertain ourselves.
Live streaming
has changed the way Chinese people shop.

🪴 approach 这里是「处理,对付」(to begin to deal with a situation or problem in a particular way or with a particular attitude)
approach life
approach a problem 处理问题 approach a task 处理任务
Researchers in the late 1960 discovered that humans are born with the capacity to
approach challenges in four primary ways: analytically, procedurally, relationally (or collaboratively) and innovatively.
🪴 figure sth out

We'll figure it out.

02

Okay, we're catching up. So I wanted to talk about this idea of "figure it out", because it has been relevant in my life for the past few months.
The idea of "figure it out" is not something new to me. From dropping out of school to traveling solo, quitting my 9-5 to pursue freelance, each one felt like one big risk after another, one giant leap of faith if you will.
No, It's been nice catching up, Tom.
Well, there's certainly a lot to catch up on.
That way, Orson and Candace can catch up.
🪴sth is not something new to sb.
我们还可以说sth is nothing new (to sb).
Workplace surveillance is nothing new.
Fears over the job-displacing effects of technology are, of course, nothing new.

sb / sth is no stranger to sth.
Teeming with spooks and intrigue, Vienna is no stranger to political violence.
The co-founder of Facebook, a social-media Goliath now called Meta, is no stranger to public rebuke.
这位社交媒体巨头Facebook(现已改名Meta)的联合创始人对公众的指责全不陌生。
I'm no stranger to pain, Winston, but this has become intolerable.

live solo 独居 go solo 单飞
a solo effort 一人之力 a solo artist 独唱歌手 solo work 个人作品 a debut solo album 首张个人专辑 solo dwellers 独居者
🪴 quit 9-5 to pursue freelance

freelancer
🪴 leap of faith leap 是「跳跃」的意思,leap of faith 信仰之跃,比喻「大胆尝试,放手一搏」。
Instead the two Americans took a leap of faith—in themselves.
🪴 if you will 也是一个口语表达,表示「如果你愿意这样说的话,如果你愿意这样称呼的话」,相当于if you wish to call it that。
这里each one felt like one big risk after another, one giant leap of faith if you will 便指:每一次都像是一次大冒险,你也可以称之为一次巨大的信仰飞跃。

04

That set me on the trajetory I am on now.

It is totally not any kind of trajectory that I pictured for myself.

Education, and not just knowledge gained on campus, will be a core part of Generation Z's career trajectory.

It can be scary to put yourself out there to take a risk or opportunity and not know how it's gonna play out. But I realized there're so many micro chances, so many different universes and timelines and I don't want to miss out in this one.
I've seen the way these things play out.
I see that playing out in one of two ways.
🪴miss out (on sth)

What, and
miss out on all the fun?

06

I think to me “figure it out” ultimately is like if you're gonna take the risk, then just trust yourself, trust yourself that you will have your own back in whatever situation that you find yourself in, that you won't let yourself down in the end.
🪴 have sb's back

And we need to have each other's backs so we can survive.

Clearly, I have your back. Talk to me.

07

As I go into adulthood, navigating new things in my life, this is something that I just never want to lose about myself: this energy of "Figure it out. Take the risk' and trusting yourself at the end of the day.
🪴 navigate [ˈnævɪɡeɪt] 为动词,本来是「导航」的意思,人们在复杂的地形里才会使用导航,因此 navigate sth 还可表示「驾驭,成功应付」困难复杂的情况 (to understand or deal with something complicated)
比如:Not everyone will successfully navigate the shifting jobs market.

Anxious Chinese parents were rushing to hire private tutors to help their children navigate a fiercely competitive education system.

She wanted to be married. She wanted a partner with whom she could navigate life's obstacles.

‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
shout out to sb
Shout out to my friend Jane who helped me a lot.‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍

08
