YCIS Shanghai

Despite the rain, YCIS Shanghai welcomed Dr. Kamran Yunus, Director of International Admissions at Downing College, University of Cambridge, for an exclusive session. Students and parents had the chance to learn about Cambridge’s unique tutorial system and its emphasis on personalized mentorship, fostering critical thinking.

Dr. Yunus outlined the admissions criteria, stressing academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and the holistic review process, which evaluates personal statements and interviews alongside grades. He shared key strategies for crafting a successful application, encouraging independent research and strong analytical skills.

The event concluded with a lively Q&A, where Dr. Yunus provided invaluable insights on personal statements and interviews, inspiring attendees for their Cambridge journey. This session exemplifies Yew Chung Yew Wah's commitment to empowering its community through access to top educational institutions.

Shanghai American School

Shanghai American School alumni are known to go from here to anywhere, and the Class of 2024 is no exception. Students, through hard work, perseverance, and boundless passion, received offers from outstanding universities and programs around the world. They then identified the best-fit path toward achieving their dreams.

For many of them, that path began in September as US Colleges started a new school year. Those eagles were busy moving into dormitories, making new friends, and settling into college life. Others are busy on their gap years, exploring career paths and philanthropic interests, or fulfilling national duties before pursuing the next stage of their education.

SAS Alumni will accomplish incredible things wherever they go, and SAS can’t wait to hear their stories when they return to the nest.

All participants at the meeting agreed to remain in close contact and work together with a view to the future.

Shanghai French School

This September, Shanghai French School is proud to highlight the success of one of its alumni, Serge Belin, who has entered the world of finance. A 2017 graduate of the Shanghai French School, Serge pursued a Scientific Baccalaureate before attending Brown University, where he studied economics and computer science. Today, he works as a derivatives trader at Goldman Sachs in New York, specializing in crude oil.

Serge credits LFS for giving him a strong academic foundation, particularly in math, and providing ample opportunities for extracurricular activities, such as sports and charity work, which enriched his university applications. At Brown, Serge continued to excel, and after internships in software development, he found his passion in trading, a field that blends his love for numbers and his global perspective.

Serge’s journey from LFS to Wall Street is a testament to the value of a well-rounded education. It also demonstrates the international recognition of the French education system. Like the IB, A-Levels, or AP, the French Baccalauréat can open doors to universities worldwide, whether in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Europe, or beyond.
