Selected Works of Xue Mo Novels is a collection of short stories written by Xue Mo, a representative writer of Western literature, which is completely based on the western land. This book includes four novels, Xinjiangye, Yue'er, The Sound of Broad Beans at Night and Jackal. The two women and the camel walked into the twilight. The camel was on its feet again but could not carry them. Things were going from bad to worse. Riding a camel was not a comfortable experience – you got a sore bottom and terrible backache – but at least it was better than walking. Still, they had had some oil and, although it had not slaked their thirst, it had given them a bit of energy. They would need it for the steep climb ahead. They were not used to walking in sand, and their body fat had not turned into the sort of muscles you needed for trekking. Ying’s calves stabbed with pain. With every step, the pain was excruciating. It was the same with the soles of her feet, they screamed until her whole body was limp with pain.两人一驼又走向暮色。骆驼虽能起身了，但还不能驮人。这真是雪上加霜的事。骑骆驼虽累，尾骨虽也老叫驼脊骨弄破，总是火烧火燎地疼，腰也老是酸叽叽地难受，但体力的消耗还是比步行小许多。她们喝的那口清油，虽解不了饥渴，但支撑身体的热量，想来还是够的。现在，她们不得不爬那高到天上的沙山。两人毕竟不习惯行沙路，身子也没有“塌膘”，也就是说身上的脂肪还没变成适合走沙路的肌肉。莹儿感到小腿肚子刀割一样。每行走一步，脚都会下陷，而每次下陷，那刀割的感觉都在加剧。脚掌也一样，每走一步，都撕疼一次。撕疼的次数一多，她就浑身瘫软了。
