The Sixth Patriarch's Dharma Jewel Platform Sutra
般若品第二
正見名出世，邪見是世間，
True-seeing is world-transcending,
False-seeing is the ‘worldly’;
邪正盡打卻，菩提性宛然。
False and true both set aside:
The bodhi-nature naturally appears.
此頌是頓教，亦名大法船，
This verse is the Direct Teaching;
It's also called the 'Great Ship of Dharma';
迷聞經累劫，悟則剎那間。
Confused, you might listen for ages;
Unconfused, you get it in an instant.
師複曰：
The Master further said:
今於大梵寺說此頓教，
Here now in the Great Brahma Monastery
I have explained the Direct Teaching.
普願法界眾生，
I hope that all living beings
throughout the Dharma Realm,
言下見性成佛。
upon hearing this will see their nature
and realize Buddhahood.
時，
At that time
韋使君與官僚道俗，聞師所說，
everyone who was listening to the Master's explanation—
Prefect Wei, the officials, Taoists, and laity—
無不省悟。
all experienced an awakening.
一時作禮，
They bowed in unison to the master
皆歎善哉，
and exclaimed with delight,
何期嶺南有佛出世。
"Outstanding! Who would have ever expected that in Lingnan a Buddha would appear in the world!"
