善知識，
Good and Wise Friends,
吾有一無相頌，
I have an unconditioned verse
各須誦取，
which you should all
recite and take to heart.
在家出家，
Whether you are a monastic or layperson,
但依此修。
just cultivate in accord with it.
若不自修，惟記吾言，亦無有益。
It will be of no benefit at all,
however, if you yourself do
not cultivate, but only memorize
my words.
聽吾頌曰：
Here's a verse for you:
說通及心通，
Thoroughly understanding in both speech and mind,
如日處虛空，
Like the sun abiding in the empty sky,
唯傳見性法，
Just spread this teaching: "seeing the nature,"
出世破邪宗。
Manifest in this world, destroy false teachings.
法即無頓漸，
Now, the Dharma is neither immediate nor gradual,
迷悟有遲疾，
It is only confusion and awakening that are quick or slow;
只此見性門，
But deluded people just cannot grasp
愚人不可悉。
This "seeing the nature" teaching.
說即雖萬般，
Although it can be explained in myriad ways,
合理還歸一，
If it accords with truth, they are ultimately one.
煩惱闇宅中，
In the dark house of the afflictions,
常須生慧日。
Always keep burning bright the sun of wisdom.
邪來煩惱至，
When the false comes, the afflictions come,
正來煩惱除，
When the true comes, the afflictions go.
邪正俱不用，
False and true both put to rest,
清淨至無餘。
Is purity supreme, purity without remainder.
菩提本自性，
Bodhi is our original, inherent nature;
起心即是妄，
Stir up the mind, and it all goes wrong.
淨心在妄中，
Yet the pure mind is right within the false:
但正無三障。
Just stay in the true, the three hindrances vanish.
世人若修道，
If people of the world cultivatethe Way,
一切盡不妨，
Nothing at all can hinder them;
常自見已過，
Always recognize your own faults,
與道即相當。
And you will be in accord with the Way.
