魏王豹谒归视亲疾；至则绝河津，反为楚。King Wei Bao of the Wei kingdom requested leave to return home to attend to his relatives' illness; upon arrival, he cut off the river crossings and defected to the state of Chu.
六月，汉王还栎阳。In the sixth month, the King of Han returned to Liyang.
壬午，立子盈为太子；赦罪人。On the day of Renwu, the King of Han established his son Ying as the crown prince and pardoned the criminals.
汉兵引水灌废丘，废丘降，章邯自杀。尽定雍地，以为中地、北地、陇西郡。The Han troops diverted water to flood Feiqiu. Feiqiu surrendered and Zhang Han committed suicide. The entire Yong region was pacified and was divided into the Central Region, the Northern Region, and Longxi Prefecture.
关中大饥，米斛万钱，人相食。令民就食蜀、汉。There was a severe famine in Guanzhong. The price of rice was ten thousand coins per hu, and people even resorted to cannibalism. The people were ordered to go to Shu and Han to seek food.
初，秦之亡也，豪杰争取金玉，宣曲任氏独窖仓粟。At the beginning of the fall of Qin, when the heroes and the powerful were scrambling for gold and jade, the Ren family in Xuanqu alone stored up grain in cellars.
及楚、汉相距荥阳，民不得耕种，而豪杰金玉尽归任氏，任以此起，富者数世。When Chu and Han were locked in a stalemate at Xingyang and the people could not cultivate the land, all the gold and jade of the heroes and the powerful ended up in the hands of the Ren family. The Ren family rose to prosperity because of this and remained wealthy for several generations.
秋，八月，汉王如荥阳，命萧何守关中，侍太子，为法令约束，立宗庙、社稷、宫室、县邑；In autumn, the eighth month, the King of Han went to Xingyang and ordered Xiao He to guard Guanzhong, attend to the crown prince, formulate laws and regulations, establish ancestral temples, altars of the state, palaces, and counties;
事有不及奏决者，辄以便宜施行，上来，以闻。If there were matters that could not be reported and decided upon in time, he could take appropriate actions on his own. When the King of Han returned, he would be informed of these matters.
计关中户口，转漕、调兵以给军，未尝乏绝。汉王使郦食其往说魏王豹，且召之。He calculated the households and population in Guanzhong, transported grain by water and land, and mobilized troops to supply the army, and there was never a shortage. The King of Han sent Li Yiji to persuade Wei Bao to return and even summoned him.
豹不听，曰：“汉王慢而侮人，骂詈诸侯、群臣如骂奴耳，吾不忍复见也。”Wei Bao refused to listen and said, "The King of Han is arrogant and insulting. He scolds the feudal lords and his ministers as if they were slaves. I can't bear to see him again."
于是汉王以韩信为左丞相，与灌婴、曹参俱击魏。So the King of Han appointed Han Xin as the Left Chancellor and sent him, along with Guan Ying and Cao Can, to attack Wei.
汉王问食其：“魏大将谁也？”对曰：“柏直。”The King of Han asked Li Yiji, "Who is the chief general of Wei?" Li Yiji replied, "Bai Zhi."
王曰：“是口尚乳臭，安能当韩信！骑将谁也？”The King of Han said, "He's still just a snot-nosed kid. How can he match Han Xin? Who is the cavalry general?"
曰：“冯敬。”曰：“是秦将冯无择子也，虽贤，不能当灌婴。”Li Yiji said, "Feng Jing." The King of Han said, "He's the son of Feng Wuze, a Qin general. Although he's capable, he can't match Guan Ying."
“步卒将谁也？”曰：“项佗。”曰：“不能当曹参。吾无患矣！”"Who is the infantry general?" Li Yiji said, "Xiang Tuo." The King of Han said, "He can't match Cao Can. I have nothing to worry about!"
韩信亦问郦生：“魏得无用周叔为大将乎？”郦生曰：“柏直也。”信曰：“竖子耳。”遂进兵。Han Xin also asked Li Yiji, "Has Wei perhaps appointed Zhou Shu as the chief general?" Li Yiji said, "It's Bai Zhi." Han Xin said, "Just a brat." Then he advanced his troops.
魏王盛兵蒲坂以塞临晋。信乃益为疑兵，陈船欲渡临晋，而伏兵从夏阳以木罂流军，袭安邑。Wei Bao amassed a large number of troops at Puban to block Linjin. Han Xin then set up more decoy troops, lined up boats as if to cross the Yellow River at Linjin, while hiding his troops who floated across the river on wooden barrels from Xiayang to raid Anyi.
魏王豹惊，引兵迎信。九月，信击虏豹，传诣荥阳；悉定魏地，置河东、上党、太原郡。Wei Bao was startled and led his troops to meet Han Xin. In September, Han Xin defeated and captured Wei Bao and sent him to Xingyang as a prisoner. The entire Wei region was pacified and Hedong, Shangdang, and Taiyuan Prefectures were established.
汉之败于彭城而西也，陈馀亦觉张耳不死，即背汉。When the Han army was defeated at Pengcheng and retreated westward, Chen Yu also realized that Zhang Er was not dead and immediately turned against Han.
韩信既定魏，使人请兵三万人，愿以北举燕、赵，东击齐，南绝楚粮道。After Han Xin had pacified Wei, he sent someone to request thirty thousand troops, expressing his willingness to march north to subdue Yan and Zhao, east to attack Qi, and south to cut off the Chu's supply lines.
汉王许之，乃遣张耳与俱，引兵东，北击赵、代。The King of Han agreed and sent Zhang Er to go with him. They led their troops eastward and then northward to attack Zhao and Dai.
后九月，信破代兵，禽夏说于阏与。信之下魏破代，汉辄使人收其精兵诣荥阳以距楚。In the intercalary ninth month, Han Xin defeated the troops of Dai and captured Xia Shuo at Yuyu. Whenever Han Xin conquered Wei or defeated Dai, the King of Han would immediately send people to collect his elite troops and send them to Xingyang to resist Chu.
