India: Chhattisgarh steel producers protest power tariff surge

Representatives of Chhattisgarh's iron and steel industries have voiced significant concerns over the recent hike in electricity tariffs, stating it is severely impacting the sector, according to local press reports.
恰蒂斯加尔邦是印度中部主要的钢铁生产邦。Kallanish（开阑商务信息咨询）获悉，该邦是印度第三大钢铁生产邦，粗钢产量约占印度全国产量的12%，球团矿产量占印度全国产量的10%，海绵铁产量占印度全国产量的20%。
Chhattisgarh is major steel manufacturing state in central India. It is the third-largest steel producing state in the country and contributes around 12% of the country’s crude steel production, 10% of India’s pellets and 20% of sponge iron production, notesKallanish.
恰蒂斯加尔邦小型钢厂协会、恰蒂斯加尔邦海绵铁制造商协会和恰蒂斯加尔邦钢铁再轧商协会代表团于周一（2024年7月8日）与首席部长会面，以解决这一问题。
A delegation from the Chhattisgarh Mini Steel Plant Association, Chhattisgarh Sponge Iron Manufacturers Association, and Chhattisgarh Steel Re-rollers Association met with Chief Minister on Monday (8 July 2024) to address this issue.
代表团指出，钢铁行业的电费最近飙升了26%，达到每度7.60印度卢比，这与其他钢铁生产邦保持稳定的电费形成了鲜明对比。
The delegation pointed out that the power tariff for the steel industry has recently surged by 26% to INR 7.60 per unit, a sharp contrast to other steel-producing states where rates have remained stable.

This hike, they argue, threatens the competitiveness of the state's steel industry. They also reminded the CM that the industry has benefited from special relief packages, including subsidies and stable tariffs, over the past 8-10 years.
恰蒂斯加尔邦海绵铁协会的一位成员表示：“由于国内钢材需求如此低迷，我们已经面临压力。季风季节本来就是我们的淡季。我们的开工率降至50%-60%，现在电费上涨又给我们增加了巨大的负担。我们需要找到一个解决方案。”
“We are already under pressure because of such poor domestic steel demand. Monsoon is already a slack season for us. We are operating at reduced capacities of say 50-60% and now this power hike is adding to the huge burden for us. We need to find a solution to this,”, quotes a member of Chhattisgarh sponge iron association.
官方发布的消息称，首席部长向代表们保证，相关官员将审查此事，并在未来四到五天内做出决定。
CM has assured the representatives that relevant officials would review the matter and make a decision within the next four to five days, according to an official release.
