Vajradhara Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö visited the universally revered Buddha's sacred relics enshrined in Varanasi, prostrated, and took the photograph seen here while holding the relics. This photo was taken during one of his two visits to Varanasi.
**First Visit:**
- **Tibetan Date:** 10th month, 19th day (corresponding to Gregorian December 21).
- **Activities:**
- Offered 200 butter lamps.
- Taught the *Pratītyasamutpāda Hṛdaya* (Essence of Dependent Arising) at the Dharma throne of Drong Song Lhungwa.
- Visited the Tsamkan Stupa, said to be where the Buddha first delivered teachings.
- Paid homage to two portions of the Buddha’s relics at the Gandhakuti Temple and made aspirational prayers.
**Second Visit (1958):**
- **Tibetan Date:** 11th month, 28th day (corresponding to Gregorian January 17).
- **Activities:**
- Traveled to Varanasi by motor vehicle.
- Paid homage, viewed the relics, and performed circumambulation rituals.
