Jiacheng Shi (China)
Sam is a 16-year-old musical kid. Knows how to play guitar and sing, and he likes to listen to metal, jazz, and classical music and all sorts of music. My favorite band in the metal genre is Megadeth, the reason so is because of their usage of tritones which adds a feeling of a hyped and magical feeling to their music, and my favorite jazz artist is Gerry Mulligan. I believe this is a great opportunity to listen and learn about how other people perceive music. Hope that you’ll like my music.
Glimmer Flow
The piece follows a simplistic pattern of style. Changing from a peaceful state to a climax eventually.

Wind, 1st and 2nd Movements

The first movement represents wind flowing through a town, visiting its farms and its alleys, blowing through every street and every corner of the town. The second movement describes a light breeze blowing through a meadow.

Christina Liang(USA)
My name is Christina Liang, a 13-year-old eighth grader at Briarcliff Middle School, NY. I’ve been writing songs since I was 8, inspired by stories, movies, and daily emotions. I record them on my iPad, and my mom’s excitement after hearing them encouraged me to share them. I submitted my work to the New York State PTA Reflections competition, winning a school award in 6th grade and an Award of Merit in the state’s top 5 in 7th grade. Encouraged by my parents, I began formal composition studies in May 2024.

Petal

This piece was inspired by my discovery of the cruel reality of the industry of wildlife trading(Specifically tigers). I was very agitated and angry when I saw the thousands of dead tigers laying on the floor, and I imagined how it would feel to be in such a position where you are forced into an industry to suffer and die miserably. This was the main inspiration for the song. The theme I wanted to express was animal cruelty, as sadly poaching and illegal practices on animals extend far beyond exotic species, but birds, cats, chickens, and almost every species imaginable. This piece is a story, told from the point of view of an abducted tiger cub.

Xiaoyan Edmond Zhuo(USA)
Edmond Zhuo, aged 12, resides in Lexington, Massachusetts, with his parents and younger brother, Charles. He is a sixth grader at Jonas Clarke Middle School. Passionate about reading and writing, Edmond also enjoys a variety of fun activities. He frequently travels with his family and began learning composition when he was 9 years old.

ADHD

It was made by the small fragments of musical ideas in the composer’s mind. When there were enough fragments, the fragments pieced themselves together, one by one, like a collage, to form the finished piece.

And she loves playing basketball and tennis with her friends. All these activities inspire her in music composition, and she would like to share her music with people.

Fortune Telling

Fortune Telling is a classical piano solo by Audrey Li. Fortune Telling has thirty-nine measures. It is played in ¾ time and should be 120 bpm. Additionally, this piece is allegretto. Fortune Telling speaks of a magician performing for audiences of many ages. The curtain falls on the last three measures of the piece. The piece has a lot of dynamics, including forte and piano.

Seek

I believe the world advances through conflict, much like a butterfly breaking free from its cocoon. Music offers me hope and happiness amid confusion, providing a sense of contentment. Reflecting on my childhood, I transitioned from fear of the unknown to frustration with dependence, driving my self-discovery. Pain and struggle reveal hidden pathways to success.

She currently serves as the secretary of the Flying Strings Youth Ensemble.

Emotions

This piece was composed based on the endless circle of emotions we as humans experience daily. As we go through each day, our emotions also change rapidly. The first movement depicts the start of a day, where we are often eager to take on what the new day brings. The second movement portrays the moments of uncertainty or sadness within a day. The third and last movement reminds us that nonetheless, we should always strive to be content and joyous.

Enoch Yu (USA)

Summer's Twilight

Summer's Twilight is a musical journey inspired by the transition from summer to autumn. The first movement, Summer’s Farewell, captures the vibrant energy of summer gradually giving way to the onset of autumn. This movement reflects the season's exuberance and slow surrender to autumn’s approach.

The second movement, Autumn’s Advent, portrays the changes in nature as autumn takes hold. Various motifs, rhythms, and melodies highlight different aspects of the season, such as shifting weather and changing foliage. Together, these movements encapsulate the delicate transition between the warmth of summer and the cool embrace of autumn.

William Wang, a 16-year-old from Bellevue, Washington, is a passionate pianist and composer. He has won multiple gold medals in prestigious piano competitions such as the NW Chopin Festival, SIPF Virtuoso Festival, RCMF, PAFE, and Pacific Northwest Piano Competition. In 2022, he won first place at the Charleston International Piano Competition, and most recently, the gold medal at Cap Ferret Music Open 2023 Junior & Masters and Chopin NW 2024. He thoroughly enjoys composition and listening to all types of music.

Winter Nights

"Winter Nights" is inspired by the diverse and unpredictable winter weather of the Pacific Northwest, from rainstorms to snow. While the season brings long, dark days, the piece celebrates its beauty, contrasting a gloomy introduction with a warm, comforting theme reminiscent of cozy nights by the fireplace. The rhythmic patterns reflect the unpredictability of nature, creating an atmosphere that highlights the often-overlooked charm of winter in the Northwest.
