Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) is an internationally oriented and regionally networked university with a strong research profile. The Faculty of Natural Sciences at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg invites applications for the position of aAssociate Professorship in Developmental Biology (m/f/d) (W2, tenure track) to beginThe Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg - together with its associate research institutes – is an internationally renowned centre for neuroscience research. Currently, the Institute of Biology of the university emphasizes molecular neurobiology, systems and regulation biology, learning and memory, social and reproductive behavior, sensory and cognitive neuroscience, as well as neuroprosthetics, and offers the study programs BSc Biomedical Science and MSc Integrative Neuroscience (both in English). To complement its profile the Institute is seeking to appoint a W2 Professor for Developmental Biology, starting in October 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.Applicants’ research and teaching expertise should lie within the field of developmental neurobiology and include comparative and cellular-mechanistic perspectives. A research focus on the development of the structural and functional architecture in the nervous system considering the generation and function of cellular diversity are particularly welcome. Preference will be given to candidates pursuing these questions with state-of-the-art technologies (spatial transcriptomics, scRNAseq, viral tracing, etc.) and comprehensive bioinformatic analysis in the sense of an integrated cell biological approach. Ideally the successful candidate will investigate organizational processes of the nervous system over the entire lifespan beyond embryonic development and with a translational perspective. An independent research profile with an excellent record of first / senior authorships and demonstrated ability to attract independent research funding is required. The successful candidate is expected to teach developmental biology in its breadth at a correspondingly high level of enthusiasm, commitment and excellence. The successful candidate will be offered a competitive package of start-up funding and scientific staff positions. The professorship will be part of the neuroscience research community in Magdeburg, which is organized under the umbrella of the Center for Behavioral Brain Sciences (CBBS) and comprises more than 100 neuroscience PIs. Research groups from several university institutes and university clinics, the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (LIN) and the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) work together in initiatives such as the collaborative research center 1436 “Neural resources of cognition” and the research training group 2413 “SynAGE” to elucidate basic neurobiological mechanisms of cognition and the control of behavior, as well as associated pathologies and dysfunctions. The recruitment will initially be in a temporary employment relationship for a period of five years. Prerequisites are a habilitation or comparable achievements according to § 35(3) HSG-LSA. Remuneration is in accordance with the German W-Besoldung at level W2 (Besoldungsgesetz Sachsen-Anhalt). Following a positive evaluation in the final year, the position will be converted to a permanent W2 professorship. We understand the Tenure Track Professorship as a career step towards taking over a lifetime professorship. Along this path, we will support you with individually tailored development opportunities. For further information about the position, please contact Prof. Dr. Oliver Stork (oliver.stork(at)ovgu.de).Applications from persons with recognised disabilities will be given priority in the case of equal suitability, ability and professional expertise.
