On December 18 and 19, the Design School of Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University hosted a two-day Career Day event, offering students valuable career insights while helping them connect with industry experts and companies. The event attracted students from all the Departments of the Design School, received career and professional planning advice from experts across various fields and actively discussed potential career development paths.

The Career Day was organised by XJTLU Design School, and co-organized by XJTLU Career Center, XJTLU Development Advisor Center, and XJTLU External Mentors team. The event aimed to broaden students’ horizons and deepen their understanding of career paths related to design fields through various talks and interactive sessions. It also provided students with opportunities to be connected with industry experts and potential employers.
The thematic talks focused on expanding career perspectives, analysing the job market, and building a professional image. The talks invited renowned experts from Architecture, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, and Industrial Design, who showcased diversified career opportunities in the Design industry, shared insights on domestic/international job market trends, essential skills required by Design Companies, and the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork. Their experience sharing provided students with valuable career inspiration.
The Career Day also included three interactive activities: CV clinic, Interview Simulation, and Meet the Companies. These sessions provided students with practical experience and helped them better understand how to improve their competitiveness in the current job market. The experts and mentors patiently offered advice on students’ resumes, interview techniques, and career planning. In the last day’s “Meet the Companies” session, students had the opportunity to submit their resumes directly to the companies, which represent an efficient way to apply for jobs.

Xianyue Zhu, a Year 1 Master’s student in Industrial Design, shares her experience of attending the event. “The thematic talks helped me understand the development trends in various industries, and the interactive sessions were also incredibly beneficial. Especially during the CV clinic, through discussions with mentors from different fields, I received many practical job-seeking tips and guidance on how to enhance my competitive edge,” she says.
