He is good at expressing these themes in a grotesque and symbolic way, using a unique artistic style to show the deep world of human subconsciousness. His works are full of metaphors and fantastic images, depicting a strange world between reality and illusion. These works not only challenge the audience's perception, but also make them think deeply about what is real and what is unreal.

Dali's life and creation have profoundly influenced other surrealist artists, pop art, popular culture, and contemporary artists including Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst.

Janet Sobel

b. 1893-1968

Janet Sobel

Janet Sobel (May 31, 1893 – November 11, 1968), born in Ukraine and later immigrating to the United States, became a pioneering figure in Abstract Expressionism. Sobel began her artistic career at the age of 45 (in 1938) and gained recognition for her innovative drip painting technique, which directly influenced renowned painter Jackson Pollock. Art critic Clement Greenberg noted that she was the first artist to exhibit all-over painting.

Although her work is often categorized within the realms of Surrealism and Primitivism, Sobel remains a significant forerunner of Abstract Expressionism. However, due to gender and identity biases, many critics labeled her as a "primitive" artist, which limited her artistic recognition to some extent. As a professional artist, Sobel transcended the role of a housewife, becoming a symbol of the tension between women's domestic roles and their creative potential. Her art not only reflects personal expression but also had a lasting impact on the development of American art.

Michael McGrath

b. 1977

Michael McGrath

Michael McGrath is an American artist and painter who lives and works in Rhinebeck, New York, in the Hudson River Valley. He has recently exhibited work in Rhinebeck, New York, Germany, Belgium, and Beijing, China. McGrath’s work is inspired by his contemporary environment in upstate New York and its history, as well as his naive curiosity about mysticism, mythology, and religious worship. The images of skeletons and ghosts often appear in his work, symbolizing thoughts about the afterlife and death, but also containing a hint of joy and hope. Through his art, McGrath invites viewers to embark on a journey to explore the blurred boundaries between life and death, reality and fantasy, the material world and the unreal.

His visual narratives draw on a variety of sources, from pagan rituals to modern spiritualism and folklore, as well as practices such as witchcraft and Ouija boards. By interweaving these diverse influences and reusing symbolic imagery in his work, McGrath encourages viewers to explore the unknown realms of mysticism with curiosity and playfulness, while maintaining an atmosphere of lightness and humor.

Zhou describes her work to a director. All the materials narrate semi-fictional stories on the stage she builds up and the authenticity is all up to the audiences to verify. Zhou’s work has been collected by many significant collectors from Shanghai and Taiwan.

Bruce Rubenstein
b.1955

Bruce Rubenstein

Bruce Rubinstein (b. 1955, New York, USA) later moved to Los Angeles. His artistic career spans more than four decades. Immersed in the world of art from a young age, Rubinstein received formal education at Parsons School of Design and joined the Art Students League of New York in the mid-1970s. His academic training permeates even his abstract works, which juxtapose sharp, precise brushstrokes with his famously accidental, irregular forms.

Strongly influenced by the Expressionist movement of the late 1950s and early 1960s, Rubinstein's paintings are filled with boundless kinetic energy and expressiveness. His artistic practice emphasizes the importance of the creative process, leading him to abandon the confines of a traditional studio and instead use outdoor spaces as open environments where he can freely release his unconscious mind. This approach mirrors the transformation of the canvas into improvisational, dynamic, and technically free "action painting," pioneered by abstract expressionist Jackson Pollock. Rubinstein splashes paint onto rough, raw canvases, allowing his "New York blood" to naturally guide the development of his works, creating layers and textures that are both raw and untamed. This combination of rough canvas and the artist’s personality makes the flow of paint a symbolic expression of chance and memory, cleverly merging Rubinstein’s personal life with a strong art historical tradition.

Since 1992, Rubinstein's works have gained international acclaim, exhibited numerous times across the globe, and collected by many corporations, including the Guess headquarters in Los Angeles, California, and the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood. Rubinstein’s artistic career demonstrates his significant role in the contemporary art world. His works offer not only visual pleasure but also deeply touch the emotions and hearts of viewers.

Shen Jingdong is one of the most respected contemporary artists of the Chinese New Wave. His unique visual language has become an important symbol of Chinese contemporary art. He was born in Nanjing and served in the frontline art troupe of the Political Department of the Nanjing Military Region in his early years. His 16 years of military service provided him with a wealth of social experience, which he drew upon as a source of inspiration to integrate Chinese history and contemporary reality into his artistic creations. Today, Shen Jingdong continues his artistic exploration in his studio in Beijing, where he expresses his thoughts and perceptions about society through painting and sculpture.

In 2006, the National Art Museum of China incorporated Shen Jingdong's work Hero No. 12 into its permanent collection, marking an important turning point in his career. Since then, his influence in the art world has rapidly grown, and he has become a leading figure in contemporary art, both in Asia and globally. His artistic style is unique, and critics have classified it as a representative style of the "post-pop wave." He is adept at transforming military images into cartoonish, puppet-like, humorous figures. Through this seemingly playful technique, Shen Jingdong infuses his works with deep reflections on human nature and universal values, revealing the artist’s profound sense of innocence. While his works may appear peaceful and gentle on the surface, they carry a deeper deconstruction of artistic narratives.

Shen Jingdong’s works are held in the collections of many renowned institutions, such as the Today Art Museum, the National Art Museum of China, and the Singapore Art Retreat Museum. His works have also been exhibited in prominent galleries in Hong Kong, France, the United States, and other countries, earning him international acclaim. These collections and exhibitions underscore his significant place in the field of contemporary art.
