Editor's note

Suzhou, an open and inclusive city, has become the place to settle down for more and more people from around the world. These "foreign faces" have not only found their second home but also been witness to the dramatic changes in the city over the years.

Episode 4

Exploring classical gardens, picking up Chinese, and gaining insights into traditional Chinese clothing... From a foreigner to a China hand to an ambassador of Suzhou cultural tourism, Farah Imane hailing from Morocco has been continuously promoting Suzhou culture via social platforms and volunteer work. Her love of Suzhou gets stronger as time goes by.

Several years ago, Farah came from Casablanca, Morocco to Suzhou and worked as a teacher at an international school in the city. During her spare time, Farah dresses up in Chinese clothing, wanders through classical gardens and on ancient streets, rides a shared bike using Alipay, and munches popular baozi, or steamed stuffed buns.

"It is a coincidence that Casablanca and Suzhou have almost the same latitude. So Suzhou suits me very well and I am deeply intoxicated by this city where tradition and modernity coexist. And I love this city," said Farah.

In a previous voluntary service activity that depicted the culture of hanfu, a type of traditional Chinese clothing, Farah was amazed at the gorgeous hanfu and the profound culture behind it. "They were so amazing with exquisite stitches."

Because of her love, Farah often learns from those who understand culture and reads books in her spare time to gain in-depth insights into Chinese culture. She sometimes asks students to learn Chinese. "Being extensive and profound, the Chinese language, especially like poetry, boasts emotions and connotations that English can not express," said Farah.

Later, Farah was recommended for this year's competition of ambassadors of cultural tourism in Suzhou. To her surprise, she nailed it as a winner. Farah cherishes chances like this more and does voluntary work in Suzhou Museum and Suzhou Silk Museum during her spare time to make more people understand the culture of museums.

Farah also shares what impressed her on social networking sites to help more people out there in the world understand her life in Suzhou and the Chinese culture.
