Suzhou was into the meteorological winter on December 5, said the Suzhou Meteorological Observatory yesterday.
According to the observatory, the average temperature has remained below 10 degrees Celsius since December 5. As the cold air rolled into South China, the temperature dropped greatly yesterday and helped bring the city into the meteorological winter.
Affected by the enhanced warm and humid air, rainfall will hit more eastern parts of South China from tonight. It will be overcast with light to modern rain in the city tomorrow, with the mercury ranging from 7 to 11 degrees Celsius. Remember to bring rain gear when going out.
Due to the cold fronts, the temperature will drop drastically from December 13 to 14, pushing the mercury down to zero degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature is forecast to drop to minus 2 degrees Celsius with thin ice on the morning of December 15.

Following the meteorological winter, the much-anticipated night of the winter solstice is just around the corner. For many old locals, winter solstice is more important than the new year. Drinking winter wine has become a common practice for people in Suzhou to celebrate the arrival of the winter.
At 7:30 a.m. today, winter wine was sold on time at the shops of Yuandachang, a time-honored brand in the city. The wine is made following many brewing steps with ingredients such as osmanthus and glutinous rice and exudes a mellow fragrance.
The retail price of this year's winter wine goes up from 5.4 yuan to 6 yuan per 500 ml. A bottle of 1000 ml winter wine is priced at 22 yuan.
An innovative kind of winter strawberry wine is also rolled out this year, which contains such fruit ingredients as strawberries, mulberries, and cherries.
