11月28日晚,“走进中华文明——苏州江南文化与中国式现代化”主题人文交流活动在世界文化遗产狮子林举办。
On the night of November 28, the cultural exchange event “An Encounter with the Chinese Civilization: Suzhou’s South of Yangtze Culture and Chinese Modernization” was unveiled at the Lion Grove Garden, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, in Suzhou.
“An Encounter with the Chinese Civilization” is a series of themed cultural exchange activities created by World Affairs Press for foreign young people. As the fifth among the series, the Suzhou event set up sub-venues in six cities in the UK and France. More than 300 young British and French students and friendly personages from all walks of life attended the event both online and offline. They felt the development of history and culture of the south of Yangtze River as well as the prosperous development and achievements of modernization of Suzhou in the new era.
Under the guidance of Prof. Yang Xuhui from Soochow University, overseas young people wandered through pavilions and halls of the Lion Grove Garden via live stream. According to introduction, Bei Runsheng, uncle of the renowned Chinese-American architect I. M. Pei, bought the Lion Grove Garden and decorated it with colored glass purchased from Europe and America. Pei, who designed the Louvre’s glass pyramid in Paris, once lived in the garden and drew inspiration from classical gardens. After the young people knew these facts, they were amazed at the traditional and modern sides of Suzhou.
