近日,“虎丘山文化景观保护”项目斩获2024 年国际风景园林师联合会亚非中东地区奖文化与传统类荣誉奖。
The IFLA AAPME Awards 2024 was announced recently. The "Tiger Hill Cultural Landscape Conservation" project won Honourable Mention in the Culture and Traditions category.
This marks the third consecutive time that a cultural landscape conservation and ecological construction project of a Suzhou classical garden has been recognized by the judging panel of IFLA, following the "Suzhou Huqiu Wetland Park" project in 2020 and the "Shihu Ecological Park" in 2022.
IFLA AAPME Awards, initiated by the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Africa, Asia Pacific and Middle East (AAPME) regions in 2018, is open to all IFLA regions and practitioners around the world for projects within AAPME regions. This award is held every two years and represents the highest accolade in landscape architecture in AAPME.
The cultural landscape conservation project of Tiger Hill involves scientific ecological design and landscape planning approaches to address extreme climate events and the large visitor influx during holidays. After nearly a decade of meticulous conservation and restoration of core heritage sites and the environment, Tiger Hill, surrounded by water on three sides, has once again showcased its natural beauty, achieving a harmonious coexistence between the city and nature.
Tiger Hill is a key component of the Suzhou section of the Grand Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and is also the signature of Wu culture. Cultural treasures such as "Three Flowers" (jasmine, white magnolia flowers, and sour orange flowers), Suzhou-style bonsai, and Yunyan tea processing techniques have been recovered or well inherited. Meanwhile, folk activities such as the Spring Flower Festival, Three Flowers Cultural Festival, Autumn Quyi Concert, and temple fairs have been organized to further promote its tradition and culture.
The project implements core strategies of site restoration, blue green infrastructure (BGI), and cultural revival to effectively protect precious cultural heritage, enhance the quality of the ecological environment, and revitalize cultural traditions. It has significantly enriched people's cultural life, created suitable habitat for indigenous animals and plants, injected new energy into the inheritance and development of traditional crafts, and vigorously promoted traditional industries.
