近日,苏州与秘鲁钱凯正式建立友好城市关系。
Chinese President Xi Jinping attended a grand welcome ceremony hosted by Peruvian President Dina Boluarte in Lima, Peru, on November 14, 2024. Xi on Thursday held talks with Boluarte in Lima. As a result of recent talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Peruvian President Dina Boluarte, Suzhou in China and Chancay in Peru have formally become sister cities.
Chancay, located about 80 kilometers north of Lima, the capital of Peru, is a key city of cooperation between China and Peru. The Chancay Port, controlled and invested by Chinese enterprises, is a natural deep-water port that can dock the world's largest cargo ships. The Phase One project of the port came into operation on November 14. It also offers a direct maritime route from South America to China, which shortens the shipping time from Peru to China to around 10 days. The Chancay Port project has become a flagship project of China-Peru Belt and Road cooperation in Latin America.
In recent years, the trade volume between Suzhou and Peru has been continuously increasing. From January to September 2024, the total trade volume between Suzhou and Peru stood at 604.27 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 29.3 percent.
Suzhou has a high demand for high-quality fresh products from South America. A traditional agricultural and mining country, Peru mainly exports mineral products, petroleum, textiles, and agricultural and fishery products, which can provide Suzhou with abundant import resources.
As the ownership rate of household cars or vans in Peru is only 11.64 percent, there is huge potential for cooperation between Suzhou and Peru in the field of automobiles, especially new energy vehicles, in the future.
The establishment of sister-city relations between Suzhou and Chancay is beneficial to the practical cooperation between the ports of the two sides and is poised to increase Suzhou ports' capacities of collecting and distributing bulk commodities, promoting commerce and trade cooperation between Suzhou and South American countries.
