A heartwarming story of love and faith has captivated social media as a Malaysian man, Zairy Amir, found his soulmate in a Chinese woman, Wang Sufiah, after a chance meeting on a street in Guangzhou. Their shared religion and serendipitous encounter have brought them together in a cross-cultural romance that defies the odds.
Zairy Amir, 38, hails from Selangor, Malaysia, and runs a delivery store in Guangzhou. One day, while searching for directions to a launderette, he approached Wang Sufiah, a 40-year-old native of Yunnan province in southwestern China. Little did he know, this simple interaction would change his life forever.
Wang, who is a Muslim like Amir, and her mother are the only individuals of their faith in their family. Upon discovering this common ground, Wang expressed a desire to be friends, and the two began to bond. For Amir, who was feeling lonely in a foreign land with no friends, Wang’s initiative to stay in touch was a welcomed surprise.
After their initial meeting, Wang asked for Amir’s contact details and began checking in on him daily. Her thoughtfulness extended to preparing meals for him, which she asked him to pick up at the subway station. This consistent effort to connect brought the two closer together.
Amir soon became a part of Wang’s daily life, accompanying her to the market, meeting her friends, and even distributing Iftar meals during Ramadan. Wang invited Amir to lead the Tarawih prayers for her and her mother, a gesture that he found deeply moving and humbling, despite feeling nervous about the responsibility.
Their relationship deepened despite the language barrier, with the couple relying on translation apps to communicate. When Wang fell ill, her brother invited Amir to visit her and asked if he had considered marriage. Amir, already deeply in love, decided to take the next step.
The couple tied the knot on December 26, with Amir’s family fully supporting his decision. Wang’s dedication to her faith, including her habit of reading the Koran in her free time, further strengthened their bond.
Their love story has resonated with many, drawing attention on social media in both China and abroad. Netizens have shared their blessings, with one commenting, “As the Chinese saying goes, ‘I wish you a harmonious union lasting for 100 years.’” Another remarked, “The same religion has brought them together.”
