A 25-year-old woman from Nanchang, Jiangxi province, has tragically lost all nine embryos she had been carrying after developing a serious infection.

The woman, surnamed Hou, became pregnant in late October after undergoing ovulation induction treatments to address fertility challenges caused by cysts and an endometrial polyp. During an ultrasound, doctors discovered she was carrying nine embryos. Due to the high risks involved, Hou was advised to undergo embryo reduction surgery to terminate seven of them, which she did in November at a cost of 40,000 yuan.

Following the surgery, Hou’s remaining two embryos appeared to be developing healthily, and she was discharged from the hospital. However, during a prenatal check-up on January 6, doctors discovered she had developed a severe cervical infection, and her amniotic sac had ruptured.

Her husband, whose name has not been disclosed, said they faced a devastating decision: “Doctors said the infection was too serious, and there was a high risk to my wife’s life. We had to choose to save her.”

The loss has left Hou devastated. “Upon hearing this news, I saw complete darkness in front of me,” she shared on social media. “I tried so hard, but in the end, I couldn’t keep my babies.”

Hou’s tragic pregnancy journey has struck a chord with many online. “I deeply understand your pain,” one netizen commented. “I was pregnant with triplets, reduced one embryo, and still lost them all. It happened five years ago, and it still breaks my heart.”

Others encouraged Hou to take care of herself, with one person saying, “Do not lose hope. Take care of your body, and your rainbow baby will come.”
