A young woman from China recently went viral online after performing an unusual challenge to earn a red envelope during the Lunar New Year. She knelt 888 times before her mother and was rewarded with 1,000 yuan (approximately $140), sparking widespread discussion among netizens.
The video, filmed in Yantai, Shandong Province, captures a warm and lively family gathering on the first day of the Chinese New Year. Amidst the festive atmosphere, the young woman suddenly came up with an idea and proposed to her mother: “Mom, if I kneel before you, will you give me a red envelope?” Her mother, amused by the request, agreed but added an unexpected condition - she would only give the money if her daughter completed 888 kneels.
Without hesitation, the young woman immediately dropped to her knees and began counting out loud as she bowed repeatedly: “One, two, three…” As the numbers climbed higher, her movements slowed, and she became visibly exhausted, panting for breath. However, determined to secure the reward, she persisted despite the growing fatigue. Her family members, gathered around, laughed heartily at the scene, some even pulling out their phones to record the moment.
After what seemed like an endless effort, the woman finally completed all 888 kneels, collapsing onto the floor, her face flushed red and sweat dripping from her forehead. True to her word, her mother smiled and transferred the 1,000 yuan to her via mobile payment.
The video quickly gained traction online, with netizens reacting with a mix of amusement and admiration. Some jokingly commented, “This is the hardest-earned money ever - every cent is a ‘kneeling fee.’ Her knees must be swollen by now!” Others remarked, “She truly worked for her money - this is tougher than a full day at the office!”
Meanwhile, some praised the act as a creative and heartfelt way to celebrate the New Year, saying, “It’s a meaningful gesture that honors her mother while adding a fun, festive touch to the holiday. This is what Lunar New Year should be about - joy, laughter, and tradition.”
