There is a clear demand for great coaches.

One of the secrets of being a great coach is simple.

Use a structured approach in your coaching:

To make sure you address all relevant points.

One of my favorite frameworks is OSCAR Model.

The OSCAR Coaching Model was developed in 2002.

The acronym OSCAR stands for:

1. Outcome:

Clarifying the desired outcome, goals and purpose, both for the coaching session and long-term.

The coach helps the coachee define what they want to achieve.

2. Situation:

Gaining clarity around the coachee's current situation, environment, and any supporting factors.

This enhances the coachee's awareness of their present state.

3. Choices/Consequences:

Exploring all possible options for achieving the desired outcome, evaluating their feasibility and consequences.

The coach helps the coachee eliminate impractical choices and focus on the best path forward.

4. Actions:

Clarifying the specific next steps the coachee will take, when they will take them, and who will support them.

The coach ensures the coachee takes responsibility for their own action plan.

5. Review:

Creating an ongoing process of progress checks to ensure the coachee stays on track and continues moving forward.

The coach helps the coachee assess if their actions are effective.

Coaches may have different approaches:

But the key is to find a structured method to ensure that neither party misses any crucial steps and to implement it effectively.
