A British tourist has gone missing while on holiday in Bangkok, leaving his family deeply concerned about his whereabouts and safety.
James Sangwine, a 33-year-old father from Epping, Essex, traveled to the Thai capital on January 18 to visit a British friend who resides there. However, he has not been heard from since the evening of January 20, when he was last seen heading to a bar to meet friends. His disappearance has left his partner, Katie, 38, in distress as she struggles to obtain any information about what happened to him.
Katie, who is unemployed, stated that James had sent her a photo of his location on January 20 and mentioned that he was going to meet friends at a bar. That was the last time she heard from him. Later that evening, James attempted to call her, but she was asleep due to the time difference. Since then, all communication has ceased, and his phone appears to be switched off.
The most alarming detail for Katie was that James failed to call his seven-year-old son on January 21 to wish him a happy birthday—an action entirely out of character for him. Even more concerning, he did not board his scheduled return flight home on January 24.
Katie has reported James as a missing person to the Royal Thai Police (RTP), but she claims there has been little progress in the investigation. "We haven't been told anything. No updates, no leads," she said. "Even if James has passed away, we still need to know, so we can bring him home and give him a proper farewell. Someone out there must know where he is or what happened to him."
According to Katie, a local couple who had met James that evening informed her that he was last seen at the Abandoned Mansion Bar & Restaurant in Bangkok. However, beyond this, there has been no new information regarding his movements after that night.
James' disappearance comes amid growing concerns over tourist safety in Thailand. Earlier this month, the body of another British tourist, Regan Kelly, 28, was discovered floating in the sea off Phuket. Kelly, who had only just arrived in Thailand for a month-long holiday, was last seen having a heated discussion with an unknown man at a local hostel before he was spotted running towards the seafront, with the man following closely behind. His lifeless body was later found by a watersports instructor the next morning.
While authorities continue their investigations into both cases, British tourists and their families are increasingly worried about the risks associated with traveling in the region.
Katie has reached out to the British Embassy in Bangkok, seeking assistance in locating James, but she remains frustrated by the slow response. "I just want answers. It has been ten days, and we are still in the dark. If anyone in Bangkok has seen James or knows anything, please come forward. His son needs to know what happened to his father."
