A Chinese newcomer to the United States has sparked discussion online after sharing her observations about American financial struggles. According to her account, after spending several months in the U.S., she were shocked to find that most Americans live paycheck to paycheck, with little to no savings.

In a social media post, the individual noted that from fresh graduates to people in their 40s and 50s, many Americans struggle to save money. "Most people I met couldn’t even pull out four-figure savings from their wallets," they wrote. "They rely on their current month's salary to pay off last month's credit card bills."

One of the most surprising aspects for her was the burden of student loans. "I was stunned when I found out that many of my classmates took out loans of over $100,000 just to get through college," she said. "For them, graduating means starting life with massive debt. If they manage to pay it off by their 30s, they’re considered very lucky."

Despite these financial challenges, the Chinese newcomer was amazed by Americans' lifestyle choices. "Even though they don’t have much savings, they still go to the gym, travel, and actively participate in social events. The financial pressure doesn’t seem to stop them from enjoying life," she observed.

Many Chinese netizens were quick to react, with some agreeing with the assessment, while others provided different perspectives.

"This is why Americans are so stressed. No savings, always paying off debt," one commenter wrote.

"They live for today, while we in China tend to save for the future. Different cultures," another noted.

"Not all Americans are like this. Some manage their finances well. But yes, student debt is a big issue," a user added.

Others pointed out the potential risks of such a financial lifestyle. "When the economy is good, living paycheck to paycheck might not seem like a problem. But what happens if they suddenly lose their jobs?"
