Celebrate the 2024 Yearof the Dragon
Chen Jing
The dragon is the symbol of the Chinese nation, and I am a dragon person. Chinese zodiac is actually an imaginary belief, basing on the zodiac animals' temperament, and combining the traditional Chinese religions, philosophy, astrology, and numerology.
Since last year, I have been planning a national dragon culture folk paper-cut exhibition. Why do I want to curate this exhibition? Because the dragon is the symbol of the Chinese nation and in traditional Chinese culture, the dragon is regarded as an auspicious and sacred symbol. Therefore, the Year of the Dragon in Jiachen is also regarded as an auspicious and prosperous year.
2024 is a special year that occurs once in a century. In addition, it is a leap year. In leap years, we usually see some special phenomena, such as the winter solstice and summer solstice being longer than in ordinary years. Due to the existence of leap years, our Spring Festival is one day early.
According to the traditional Chinese calendar, the Jiachen Year of the Dragon take turn every 60 years. The last Year of the Jiachen Dragon was 1964, which was a year full of changes and challenges. Now, we have entered a new Year of the Dragon, which brings us some new opportunities and challenges. In this special year, we can draw wisdom and strength from traditional culture.
In traditional Chinese culture, the dragon is regarded as a mysterious and sacred existence. Its image is endowed with qualities such as strength, wisdom and courage. Therefore, we can draw strength and courage from the image of the dragon to meet new challenges and opportunities. By reviewing past experiences and lessons learned, we can better respond to future challenges and opportunities.
Finally, I wish fellow paper-cutting folk to carry forward the spirit of the dragon, work hard, be physically and mentally healthy, have a prosperous career, all the best, and be blessed with happiness in 2024!
