Known as the “Mother River of China”, the Yellow River is the second longest in China. It is the symbol of the Chinese nation, the spirit of the Chinese people, and the cradle of Chinese civilization.
The Yellow River is about 5,464 kilometres long. It flows from the west to the east of China. It runs through nine provinces, and flows to the Bohai Sea. The Yellow River provides water supply for the country’s agriculture. The word “yellow” describes the colour of the muddy water in the lower course of the river.
Known as the “MWhen the rains were heavy, the Yellow River used to flood large areas. But now the waters of it are used to produce energy. Today hydroelectric dams have been built to prevent the plains from flooding. They can also provide electric power for the cities and towns around.other River of China”, the Yellow River is the second longest in China. It is the symbol of the Chinese nation, the spirit of the Chinese people, and the cradle of Chinese civilization.For thousands of years, the Yellow River has been admired by poets, artists, and common people.

Hukou Waterfall, in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, is the largest “yellow” waterfall in the world, and the second largest waterfall in China after Huangguoshu Waterfall.
