Our middle school touch rugby teams continued their unbeaten start to the season with three victories this week. Our boys’ team was on the road as they headed to Shenzhen Bay to take part in the tri-school SISAC game night, where they played two matches against Basis and SIS. The boys dug in and got the job done against a resilient SIS team, overcoming our noisy neighbors 4-2. As afternoon became evening and the sun set, the party was just getting started. Our boys ran riot against BASIS, finishing 6-2 winners to show why they are the best team in Shenzhen now. An outstanding performance from Paddy Murphy, along with a strong debut performance from Leo Alexandre, capped off a memorable night for Coach Reece and Coach Phil.

Meanwhile, at home, our girls’ team made it a 7-game winning streak on the PLE field stretching back to November 2023 as they overcame the SIS girls by a comfortable 6-1 margin. In a tight first half, our girls went into the break by one try, courtesy of a try from Katherine Lee, who looked lively all game. The second half brought with it real thunder, as wave after wave of Dragon pressure led to rewards. Regina Chen touched down for an incredible four tries; her lightning-fast moves cut through the Geckos’ defense, which just couldn’t handle her pace. After one more try from Katherine, the evening ended 6-1. Both boys’ and girls’ teams head off to their PRC weekend this week in red-hot form as they seek PRC glory at AISG in Guangzhou.

Last weekend, our badminton team had their final PRC event of the season. After gaining the third seed from the previous event, our Dragons showed why they deserved it, winning through their morning games to play BSG in the 3rd place match at the end of the day. It was meant to be for our boys and girls. Our team, made up of singles and doubles players, came out victorious and brought the bronze trophy back to QSI. A big congratulations to Coach Sam, Coach Ricardo, and their student coaches from secondary who managed the team through the weekend.

While our high schoolers are busy getting ready for their curtain raiser in the basketball season at ISNS next Thursday, it was our youngest athletes that were also busy last weekend as our team of Young Dragons soccer players went to their second Shenzhen event of the season. Across the morning, our U7, U9, and U11 teams played three matches each as they began to develop their skills and get a real feeling for playing soccer in a semi-competitive environment. Well done to all of our young superstars as they continue their journey as Dragon athletes.
