In the QSI Shenzhen Learning Community, leadership goes beyond major decisions and planning—it extends to the smallest acts of care and inspiration. A group of middle school math students, including Tsing Z H, Kyle G, Fino Y, Christine K, Flora W, Yao Kai H, Bruno L, David L, Jeremy X, Alex W, Anthony Y, and Tom Z, exemplify this leadership by guiding 8-10-year-olds on a journey of mathematical discovery. Their enthusiasm highlights the evolving nature of student leadership.
These middle school students recognize that sparking interest is the key to learning. On their own initiative, they organized to share their math knowledge and experience, building a connection to the wonders of mathematics for younger students.

To make these tutoring sessions both effective and engaging, teachers took on the role of “math magicians.” They dove deep into the teaching materials, gathering interesting math stories, games, and real-world applications to make each lesson captivating. Recognizing that every child learns differently, they tailored the content to meet the needs of students at various learning levels, ensuring each child can progress at their own pace within their "zone of proximal development." Using interactive methods like questioning, group activities, and math competitions, they encourage students to think critically and explore.
