Last weekend was a rarity in Dragon sports as our two seasons overlapped with one another. Our MS boys development team had a big day out as they travelled to Guangzhou for the PRC boys division. The growth in the team was evident and is testament to the hard work of coaches Michael and John, as our boys ended the day with a win, a draw and a loss, to take 6th place. As soccer grows into touch rugby for middle school, our girls team found themselves between the two sports, as they headed to a final PRC yellow tournament date with Coach Joey and Charlotte before saying a fond farewell to soccer.It was a season full of twists and turns, on this day it was the Dragons Day as the coaches and students turned their hard work into hardware as they brought home the coveted PRC yellow division trophy and first place. With five goals across three games, Regina was an outstanding player on the final day, as was Selina Wang, our fearless goalkeeper who kept three clean sheets. With eleven goals scored, our Dragons sunk SGA Academy with six goals, before outclassing SWIS by a more modest three goal scoreline and completed the day by schooling Basis Park Lane Harbor by two goals to take the championship.

The balls were swapped this week, but the attitude was kept the same as many of our athletes switched into touch rugby. A short and fast season, it shows testament to our students all around athletic ability to play multiple sports and is the reason at QSI we promote the seasons policy for sports. After just a single week of training, our boys and girls welcomed SWIS to the Dragons den, and in the rain, they began their SISAC crown defenses. Despite the wet conditions, our girls showed excellent handling off the ball, with Saayra a constant threat on the right wing, and it didn’t take long before she got our first try of the season, which our girls ultimately turned into a 2-1 victory. Our boys sought to emulate the success of the girls, and went ahead early in the first half courtesy of a diving try by captain Paddy, however, whilst it was not the perfect start, it was a good start to the season as our boys played out a draw ended 1-1.

Is it only a short season for rugby and as such our volleyball for middle school which starts at the turn of the year is now open for sign-ups. Badminton had a busy week this week with a Monday night visit to SIS and they get on the road again tonight as they go to face of with SWIS for the “Donut Cup” before a quick night’s sleep as they then head to their PRC championship finals this weekend. Our cross country teams saw their season come to a close this week with a rainy Wednesday morning visit to Shenzhen Bay park off the back of a visit to Zhuhai last Friday for the PRC U13, U15 and U19 running championships. Zhuhai provided the stage a special moment of magic for Ziwen of QSI as she stormed from third to first in the final 200m of her race to seal gold and add the cherry on top for a wonderful day of PB’s for many of our team. Jason made it three medals in three SISAC races as he came home in third place in the rain on Wednesday. It was a tricky day in the wet condition, but the season ended with smiles and ice cream.

For high school sports, our basketball season preparations are well underway for both of our girls and boys teams and they hit the courts hard for the second week, with their first fixture still two week's away. Coach Zhang and Coach Jessie have been growing the spirit and team feeling in the girls camp and there is a wonderful atmosphere around the girls this season. At the same time, our boys have been working to make the first squad of 12, and it’s a good problem for Coach Omer to have as he looks to trim his boys from 24 to 12.
