Zou Shiming, a two-time Olympic boxing champion, and his wife, Ran Yingying, have recently made headlines for their financial struggles. After seven years of entrepreneurial missteps, the couple reportedly lost their 200 million RMB fortune, sparking public concern about their marriage and future.

In 2017, Zou retired from his illustrious boxing career and expressed a desire to establish a boxing gym and event center. Encouraged by her husband’s ambition, Ran enthusiastically supported the idea. The couple opened a state-of-the-art boxing club in Shanghai, spanning 18,000 square meters and equipped with premium facilities.

Despite initial success, the business soon faced challenges, including market changes and internal management issues. Over time, mounting operational costs - such as annual staff salaries exceeding 300,000 RMB - led to financial strain. By 2023, the couple had lost their fortune and incurred significant debt, forcing them to sell properties in the U.S., Beijing, and Guizhou.

Ran recently shared her emotional journey in a video posted on social media. She admitted feeling regret over their failed venture and revealed the toll it has taken on their relationship. “We argue about money every day,” she said, with tears in her eyes. “We’ve even slept in separate rooms for three years.”

Ran’s public confession sparked speculation about the state of their marriage, with some netizens questioning if divorce might be on the horizon. However, Ran dismissed such notions, affirming her commitment to standing by Zou and working together to repay their debts.

Netizens also scrutinized the couple’s lifestyle. Despite claiming financial hardship, Ran frequently posts about family vacations to ski resorts and desert expeditions. Critics argued that scaling back on luxuries could alleviate their financial burden. In response, Ran explained that these trips are meant to broaden their children’s horizons, a priority stemming from her own strict upbringing in a single-parent household.

After their business collapse, Ran took proactive steps to address their financial situation. She joined a live-streaming e-commerce company, leveraging her public profile to generate income. Additionally, she enrolled in a business school, where she gained practical knowledge that helped her repay nearly 20 million RMB in debt within a year.

Reflecting on her experience, Ran expressed regret for her initial arrogance. “I thought my academic background from Peking University and Fudan University was enough, but real-life entrepreneurship taught me humility,” she said.

Despite their hardships, Ran remains optimistic about their future. She recently encouraged Zou to join her in attending business courses, emphasizing the importance of financial literacy.

Netizens have also speculated that the couple might participate in the fifth season of See You Again, a reality show focused on couples navigating marital challenges. While Ran has not confirmed this, she stated that her ultimate goal is to rebuild their financial stability and strengthen their relationship.

In her video, Ran reiterated her dedication to Zou: “We’ve had our struggles, but I will always stand by him. Together, we will overcome this.”

As Zou prepares for a potential return to the boxing ring at 43, fans hope the couple can find a balance between personal growth and financial recovery.
