A Seattle youth therapist successfully fled to China after being arrested on child pornography charges, highlighting a concerning lapse in law enforcement coordination at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Yuexiang "Bruce" Ling, 26, who worked as a family and children's therapist at Valley Cities Behavioral Health Care, was initially arrested after police discovered numerous child pornography images on his computer. These files were found alongside his job application materials for Seattle Children's Hospital.

After posting bail, which required as little as $7,500 out-of-pocket, Ling was ordered to surrender his identification documents, including his Chinese passport. However, he managed to obtain a new passport illegally and attempted to leave the country.

Despite Homeland Security flagging Ling's attempted escape and the King County Sheriff's Office notifying Port of Seattle Police to apprehend him, a bureaucratic misunderstanding led to his successful departure.

Casey McNerthney from the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office expressed frustration with the outcome, stating, "We believe they absolutely could have arrested him." McNerthney explained that Ling could have been arrested for two violations: bail jumping and violating release orders by obtaining a new passport.

The Port of Seattle Police Department is currently investigating the incident. A department official stated they require either a warrant or probable cause for an arrest, though it remains unclear whether either condition was met during the incident.

During his employment, Ling claimed to have collaborated with various organizations, including the Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF), Child Protective Services, and Seattle Children's Hospital. However, DCYF has confirmed they held no contracts with companies employing Ling, and Seattle Children's Hospital verified that Ling never worked as an employee, contractor, or student for their organization.
