China’s latest census data, released on May 11, revealed that the country’s population has surpassed 1.41 billion. Notably, there is a gender imbalance, with 34.9 million more men than women. This finding has sparked international discussions, including unexpected attention from American women.

One U.S.-based social media influencer shared a video on Xiaohongshu, a popular Chinese platform, discussing this gender disparity. “Ladies, Chinese men outnumber women by 30 million. We all know now, but let’s keep quiet about it - this is a sensitive topic,” she said with a smile. She went on to praise Chinese men, citing their romantic nature, financial generosity, cooking skills, commitment to child-rearing, and strong support for education. She also highlighted the low divorce rate and stable incomes of Chinese men.

Another American woman openly urged others to consider dating Chinese men, emphasizing their desirable qualities. “Chinese men are romantic and take responsibility for expenses. They cook, care for children, and prioritize education. What more could we ask for?”

The discussion has attracted attention on Chinese social media platforms, with netizens responding with humor and concern. One user joked, “Oh no, American women are coming to steal Chinese men!” Another warned, “Chinese men, you must protect yourselves!”

Some comments contrasted the praise from American women with the perceived high expectations of local women in China. “This is better than needing to pay bride prices and still being treated like a servant,” one user remarked. Another quipped, “White women are already drooling over Chinese men, but let’s hope Chinese-American men don’t ruin the reputation.”

Adding to the attention, netizens pointed out that women from other countries, including Russia and South Korea, have also expressed interest in marrying Chinese men. “First, it was Russians wanting to marry Chinese men. Then South Koreans said the same. Now Americans? What’s going on?” a user joked.
