Navina Heyden, a German influencer with over 200,000 followers on the Chinese platform Bilibili, recently stirred discussions with her latest video titled, "German Influencers in a Traditional Dilemma!" The video has garnered over 300,000 views and highlights the challenges faced by German creators in China.
In the video, Heyden humorously laments the intense competition German influencers face on Chinese social media. "Soldiers, it’s tough for us German bloggers in China," she says. "For a long time, we’ve had to compete with numerous beautiful Russian influencers. Now, gorgeous American TikTok refugees are arriving, and we’re fighting a two-front battle. This scenario seems oddly familiar… where have we seen this before?" Her comments playfully reference historical conflicts while pointing out the growing rivalry among foreign creators in China.
Heyden’s post sparked a wave of reactions from netizens, ranging from supportive to critical.
Some praised her charm and personality, with one user commenting, "I love Navina’s looks. She’s adorable with a slightly goofy vibe. Her chubby figure is cute, but her rough voice - wow, I can’t imagine having a conversation without my eardrums bursting!"
Others suggested creative solutions to her dilemma. "Why not team up with French and Italian influencers to make a debut together?" one netizen joked. Another added, "German influencers must immediately form alliances with Italian and Japanese creators to counter the influx of TikTok refugees!"
The historical allusion in Heyden’s video also drew attention. "First, confront the Russians head-on, then face a second front opened by the Americans. This aligns with history," a user quipped.
However, some warned her about the potential backlash from her homeland. "Be careful with your statements. These comments might be frowned upon in Germany, and you could have trouble returning home," one commenter noted.
Heyden, who gained fame by sharing her unique perspective on China, is married to a man from Liaocheng, Shandong Province, and resides in Qingdao. She is currently studying Chinese at Ocean University of China.
Fluent in Chinese, she has become a prominent figure in telling "China’s stories" on both Chinese and international platforms. Known for countering Western media’s negative portrayals of China, Heyden often criticizes “stereotypical” and “habitually dishonest” reports. She supports China's calls for fairness and justice on the global stage, advocating for the concept of a shared future for humanity.
Despite her pro-China stance, Heyden acknowledges challenges on Chinese social media. "Sometimes Chinese netizens don’t understand me," she admitted, adding that the online world is a "mixed bag." She criticized individuals who superficially promote positive messages but exploit the platform for personal gain, ultimately causing harm.
