If you are a student and you are about to renew your passport and Resident Permit (RP), this guide might help you in navigating all bureacracy and the necessary documents.

When you renew your passport, within 10 days from its issue date, you can visit the Visa Center/Exit Entry Bureau (EEB) to renew your resident permit. Pay attention that the time frame for renewing your resident permit starts from 90 days to around 10 days before its expiry date.

In SIP, you can renew your RP at:

Suzhou Entry Exit Bureau in Moon Bay with the following documents to :

Opening Hours:

Monday-Friday, 9:00-11:45, 14:00-17:15

The following are the essential documents you must present at the EEB to apply for your RP renewal:

-Old and new passport (original);

-Copies of passport’s information page (both old and new passport), latest visa/resident permit page and the last entry stamp page (make sure that the copy is centered in a A4 paper, so that it is clear that no information are left out);

-Visa/Stay Permit/Resident Permit Application Form (外国人签证证件申请表);

-Accommodation Registration Form  (境外人员住宿登记表)  released by the local police station or online, with the new passport number;

-Documents issued by your university, such as the Visa Application Statement Letter. They might ask to have a look at your Admission letter and JW202 Form;

-A 2 inches photo with white background which will be attached to your request.

Upon your arrival at the EEB, you will be asked to first go to the photograph room to take a photo to be used for the resident permit. Make sure to not wear earrings, glasses, and have your hair not covering your face and ears.

Once the photo is taken, you can go to the counter and hand out all the documents and pay for the new resident permit. The application fee depends from the length of your permit, from 400 RMB for one year, to 800 RMB for two years. The fee must be paid through Alipay or Wechat pay.

Similiar to the first issuance, the resident permit processing time is usually 10-15 working days, and leave you a temporary paper stating your permit’s request, which will allow you to travel within China. Compared to the first time applying for a resident permit, the renewal and extention do not require the Health Check Report.

I hope this guide helped you understand all the necessary documents and steps needed to renew your resident permit after having renewed your passport.
