Describe a bad service you received in a restaurant or shop.

You should say:

When and where it happened

What happened

How you dealt with it

And explain how you felt about the experience

One bad service experience I had was at a restaurant about a year ago. It happened during dinner at a popular spot in the city, where I went with friends to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant was crowded, and it seemed like the staff was overwhelmed.

The waiter took an unusually long time to bring the menu, and when we finally ordered, the food took almost an hour to arrive. To make matters worse, some of the dishes were incorrect, and when we pointed it out, the waiter didn’t apologize and acted annoyed. The whole experience felt chaotic and unprofessional.

I tried to stay calm and politely asked the waiter to correct the mistake, but the service didn’t improve much. After the meal, I decided to leave a note in their feedback form, explaining what went wrong. While I understand that the restaurant was busy, I felt disappointed and frustrated by their lack of attentiveness and courtesy. It left me hesitant to recommend the place to others.

 Part 3

Why do bad services happen?

Bad services often happen due to staff shortages, lack of proper training, or poor management. High customer volume during busy times can also overwhelm employees, leading to mistakes or inattentiveness.

How do most people respond to bad services?

Most people try to address bad service politely by speaking to the staff or manager. Some may choose to leave a review or feedback after the experience, while others might simply avoid returning to that establishment.

Do most restaurants and shops provide better services than in the past?

Yes, many restaurants and shops have improved their services over the years due to competition and customer expectations. Technology, like online ordering and automated systems, has also made services more efficient. However, there are still cases where service falls short, especially during peak hours or in poorly managed establishments.
