The China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) Chair Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles met with Guangdong Vice Governor Zhang Xin, Guangzhou Mayor Sun Zhiyang on Thursday, 21 November in Guangzhou.

During the meeting, Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles reflected on the transformation he has witnessed in Guangdong over the years and praised the province’s achievements in cutting-edge sectors such as autonomous driving. He emphasised that CBBC remains committed to acting as a vital bridge, supporting its member companies in expanding their investments and operations in Guangdong, and supporting the development of UK-China relations.
会上，古沛勤表示，多年来亲眼见证了广东的发展巨变，对广东在无人驾驶等新兴领域的前瞻布局和发展成就表示赞赏，愿继续发挥桥梁纽带作用，支持推动更多协会会员企业扩大在粤投资和业务布局，为英中关系发展注入新动力。
Zhang Xin highlighted the Greater Bay Area as one of the world’s most attractive destinations for foreign investment. He noted that, under the guidance of key directives from President Xi Jinping’s visit to Guangdong, the province is promoting high-level opening-up and driving high-quality development, offering even greater opportunities for UK businesses to grow and succeed in the region. He hoped to collaborate with CBBC to deepen cooperation across various sectors, enhance complementary strengths, and achieve greater levels of mutual benefit and shared success.
张新表示，粤港澳大湾区是全球最富吸引力的外商投资热土之一。当前，广东正深入学习贯彻中共二十届三中全会精神和习近平总书记视察广东重要讲话、重要指示精神，以高水平对外开放促进广东高质量发展，这将为英国企业在大湾区实现更好发展带来更加广阔的空间。愿同英中贸易协会一道，促进两地多领域合作，加强优势互补，实现更高水平互利共赢。

Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles commended Guangzhou’s strengths in technological innovation and industrial resources. He noted that the CBBC will continue to enhance economic and trade ties between the UK and Guangzhou. Looking ahead with optimism, he affirmed the CBBC's role in facilitating opportunities for UK businesses to invest in Guangzhou, fostering collaboration, and achieving mutually beneficial outcomes across various sectors.
古沛勤爵士高度评价广州在科技创新、产业资源等方面的发展优势。他表示，协会一直致力于深化英国与广州的经贸合作，对广州未来发展充满信心，将继续发挥协会桥梁作用，推动更多英国企业投资广州，共享发展机遇，助推英中在更多领域交流合作中开花结果。
Sun Zhiyang congratulated the CBBC on its 70th anniversary and acknowledged its contributions to advancing trade and economic cooperation between Guangzhou and the UK. He expressed hope that CBBC will continue to serve as a bridge, encouraging more member companies to explore investment opportunities in Guangzhou while supporting local businesses in expanding globally, creating mutual benefits in the process.
He also invited UK businesses to engage with Guangzhou and strengthen practical cooperation in areas such as the green economy, digital economy, advanced manufacturing, financial services, and healthcare, contributing to the broader development of UK-China relations.

CBBC's Chair Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles and Chief Executive Peter Burnett, accompanied by a delegation of member companies, commenced their second visit to China this year on Monday, 18 November. This visit will cover Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Beijing. The programme includes a series of meetings with senior Chinese government officials and events designed to engage with CBBC members and stakeholders across China.
