校长来信
Mrs Jane Arden
Mrs Arden

Letter from the Headteacher
Mrs Jane Arden
Headteacher
Dear Parents,
Courage is a quality we strive to nurture in every child at LEH, and this term has been filled with wonderful examples of our students embracing bravery and growth. Auditioning for the school musical, Annie, was a significant milestone for many students. Stepping onto a stage, uncertain of the outcome, requires immense courage. Facing the possibility of rejection is never easy, no matter one’s age, but it’s a vital life lesson and a step toward resilience.
Similarly, our swimmers showcased their courage at a recent gala. While there can only ever be one winner in a race, many of our swimmers achieved personal bests and brought home medals—a testament to their confidence and determination.
Courtesy of student photographer, Alicia
Well done to all our students who have shown such bravery in their pursuits. These moments of courage, whether on stage or in the pool, build the confidence and resilience that will serve them well throughout their lives.
Have a great weekend!
Best Regards
Mrs Arden

Alberto Giacometti Art Exhibition
Chun Yang Tai Art and Literature Centre, Guangzhou
This week Year 10 and Pre-A Level Art students had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view an exciting exhibition of paintings, prints and sculptures by the famous Western artist, Alberto Giocametti.
As part of their coursework research students drew and analysed artworks. Seeing art in the flesh is very important for our students. Students got to physically experience the work, to walk around sculptures and get up close to see the texture and experience the effect the scale of the work had on them. None of this can be achieved via internet research.

In the classroom, inspired by Giocometti’s loose overlapping line work, students produced self-portrait monoprints. We think you will agree that our students are exceptionally talented. In the next part of Year 10 students continue with portraiture and learn about colour theory and painting techniques.

This includes delivering engaging lessons with off-the-shelf teaching materials, tracking career interactions, and drafting references. The platform also supports educators in guiding students through the application process, ensuring they make informed decisions about their future.
Overall, Unifrog aims to level the playing field by providing all the necessary information and tools in one user-friendly platform, making it easier for students to find and apply for the best opportunities available to them.
Mathematics
by Mrs Kirk, Head of Mathematics
American Mathematics Competition
On November the 13th 23 students from Y9 – Y12 took part in the American Mathematics competition. Participating in the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) offers numerous benefits. It helps improve problem-solving skills by emphasising creative approaches to complex problems. High scorers can qualify for advanced competitions like the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) and the United States of America Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO), which can enhance university applications as many prestigious universities recognise and value AMC scores. The AMC covers a range of topics, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, number theory, probability, and combinatorics, with questions designed to test problem-solving rather than rote memorization. This competition is useful for developing critical thinking skills, fostering a love for mathematics, and benchmarking against peers internationally. Participating in the AMC can be a rewarding experience that opens doors to further opportunities in mathematics and beyond. All the students tried their best and we eagerly await the results.
Maths Workshop
The Parents maths workshop was a fantastic initiative! It’s great that parents got to experience firsthand what their children go through in their maths lessons. Engaging parents in this way can help build a supportive learning environment, which was the activities' aim. The room buzzed with excited chatter as Parents completed the maths loop gaining valuable house points for their child. There was a mixture of fear and pride as each group went about solving the tasks.
Vocabulary in maths is key. The emphasis in the workshop was on using physical translation dictionaries and learning key mathematical vocabulary which is crucial. It helps students develop a deeper understanding and therefore retention of concepts. The discussion about online resources and the importance of monitoring their use is very relevant in today’s digital age. However, LEH Foshan also offers students the chance to use technology in mathematics and there are some valuable sites that the department use to help learning and as reinforcement and practice. I shared these with the Parents plus some key points on how to keep a closer eye on exactly what the student should be doing online,
The Parents enjoyed the workshop and it was really effective in helping parents connect with their children’s experiences.
House Competition Update
by Mr Banks, Deputy Head
The House competition at LEH Foshan continues to inspire enthusiasm and excitement across the school, with all Houses displaying outstanding commitment and spirit. I am delighted to share an update on recent achievements, upcoming events, and exciting new opportunities for students to showcase their talents and contribute to their Houses.
Phoenix Leading the Way in Lessons
Phoenix House is currently leading the charge, amassing an impressive number of House Points during lessons. Their focus, effort, and dedication in the classroom have been remarkable, and they deserve to be celebrated for setting the pace in this year’s competition.
However, the competition remains wide open, with strong performances coming from students across all Houses. Each point earned reflects a collective effort, and every student’s contribution matters greatly.
Unicorn’s Founders’ Day Sweep
A special congratulations goes to Unicorn House for achieving a rare and incredible feat during Founders’ Day. Unicorn made history by winning all four competitions—Prep and Secondary Sports, as well as Prep and Secondary Music. Such an accomplishment is a testament to their teamwork, determination, and exceptional talent. This achievement will undoubtedly be a moment of pride for Unicorn for years to come.
Upcoming Events:
Tag Rugby and Sports Day
The competition heats up further today as Secondary students take to the field for the Tag Rugby event. This exciting contest is sure to bring out the best in our students as they compete passionately for their Houses.
Looking ahead, Sports Day on 13th December will be a significant milestone in the House competition. With so much at stake, we encourage all students to participate with energy and enthusiasm, as every point earned will contribute to the overall standings.
We’re Just Getting Started
Although the competition is in full swing, we are not even halfway through the year. This means there are plenty of opportunities for students to excel and make a difference. The House Trophy for 2024/25 is still up for grabs, and it’s exciting to see how Gryphon and Dragon Houses will rise to the challenge in the coming months.
New House Competition:
Creativity Meets Service
I am thrilled to introduce a new House competition that combines creativity with community service. Students are invited to create a piece of artwork that reflects their imagination and craftsmanship. The best artwork from each House will be auctioned, with all proceeds going to charity.
This initiative not only allows students to showcase their artistic talents but also provides a meaningful opportunity to give back to the community. The House that raises the most money will win the competition, but the true victory lies in the positive impact this initiative will have on others.
Looking Ahead to 2025
The excitement doesn’t stop here. In 2025, we have several more thrilling events lined up, including the House Swimming Gala, Football, Academic Quiz, Rounders, and the Eight Endeavours. These competitions provide opportunities for all students to shine and for all Houses to compete fiercely for points.
Good luck to all our students as they continue to demonstrate their skills, sportsmanship, and creativity. Let’s cheer on Gryphon and Dragon as they push to close the gap and keep the competition alive!
