Mrs Jane Arden
Mrs Arden

LAMDA
Mrs Kingsley-Mills
Ms Stevens

Ms Hayward

Ms Qiu
Dr Kirk

Letter from the Headteacher
Mrs Jane Arden
Headteacher
Dear LEH Foshan Community,
This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming some incredible mums to spend the day at school, immersing themselves in the daily life of their children. It was heartwarming to see the pride and excitement on the students' faces as they showed their mums around, shared their learning experiences, and demonstrated the effort they put into their schoolwork.
For our visiting parents, we hope it was an eye-opening experience—gaining a new appreciation for the hard work, focus, and resilience required in their children’s studies. Life at an international boarding school is as demanding as it is rewarding, with a unique rhythm that balances academic excellence with a rich variety of activities and personal growth opportunities.
Parental engagement, whether it’s joining the Parent Committee, attending performances, or simply participating in events like this, plays a vital role in building a strong sense of community. It reinforces the essential partnership between home and school, reminding us all that the best outcomes for our children come from working together.
Thank you to all the mums who made this week so special. Your involvement is deeply valued, and we look forward to continuing this spirit of collaboration in the months ahead.
Best Regards
Mrs Arden

LAMDA
by Mrs Kingsley-Mills, Drama Teacher
Last evening, we hosted LAMDA EVENING a delightful event featuring the creative talents of 15 children. The majority of these young participants showcased their originality by crafting their own scripts, bringing a unique and personal touch to the evening's performances. The event was a resounding success, filled with enthusiasm and creativity, leaving everyone eagerly anticipating their upcoming exam on December 3rd.
As the new drama teacher at the school, I am thrilled to witness such a high level of engagement and talent among the students. Their dedication and passion for drama are truly inspiring. This event has given me a wonderful glimpse into the potential and creativity that these young minds possess.
The future looks bright for our drama department, and I can't wait to see what these talented students will achieve next!
by Ms Stevens, Head of English & Drama Faculty
LEH Foshan’s inaugural Drama evening took place this week, showcasing the talented acting and performing skills of some of our pupils in preparation for their external assessment with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) next week. They participated in a range of categories, from Lia’s Grade 5 Solo Acting to some of our less experienced students doing the shorter Introductory Stage One option.
The students were amusing, slapstick, patient, expressive and moving in their performances. Most of them, remarkably, had written their own scripts, and it was even more impressive to see them bring to life their own creations and visions of the world in their acting.
Many of our students do not have English as their first language; despite this, they spoke clearly, projecting their voices with body language and facial expressions that showed not only hard work on behalf of the student, but also the expert training they had from Mrs Kingsley-Mills, the school’s new Drama teacher.
The audience of parents thoroughly enjoyed seeing their children express themselves and build their confidence on stage. We are all looking forward to our next LAMDA evening, and of course to our exciting musical Annie, which will feature many of the same pupils.
EAC Fair

Explore, Engage, Excel:
Our Extracurricular Activity Fair!
This week, our school community came alive with excitement at the annual Extracurricular Activity Fair. The event was a showcase of the incredible opportunities available to students outside the classroom, designed to inspire exploration, foster talents, and create lasting memories.
From sports teams like football, basketball, and badminton, to creative pursuits such as robotics, art clubs, and music ensembles, there was something for everyone. Academic enrichment activities, including student led science support clubs, maths support clubs and Chinese literature appreciation, offered students the chance to deepen their knowledge and challenge their intellect, while leadership opportunities through student council and volunteering groups encouraged them to make a difference in the school and beyond.
The fair was buzzing with energy as students engaged with teachers and our external providers and will hopefully sign up for activities that sparked their interest. Parents and teachers were equally impressed by the diversity of offerings and the passion displayed by everyone involved.
By participating in extracurricular activities, students not only build valuable skills like teamwork, resilience, and creativity but also cultivate friendships and memories that last a lifetime. Whether you're a seasoned athlete, a budding artist, or simply curious to try something new, our extracurricular program has something to offer.
We can’t wait to see our students thrive as they explore these incredible opportunities. Here’s to another fantastic year of learning, growth, and fun!
Art
by Ms Hayward, Head of Art and Design Faculty
Chinese Brush Painting Workshop
Three artists showing in our current exhibition, Studio Huang 23, delivered a fun, informative workshop for our Art Students and staff.
The artist teachers gave demonstrations and taught important Chinese brush techniques.
We painted a lychee tree and learned how to apply the brush with different pressures, amounts of water and different brush movements to paint bark, lychees and leaves. It was very challenging and is quite different to Western painting and to what we teach in the British Art curriculum.
Some of our students demonstrated a natural ability in this approach and they produced some beautiful marks and paintings in a short time. We were all very inspired by the workshop and are very grateful to the artists, including our Mandarin teacher Mrs Sheryl Wang, who has been studying under Master Huang for two years and has an artwork in our show.

Painting by Angela Year 10
If you have not had a chance to see the exhibition yet, please do come along. It closes on the 9th of December.
Chinese - GBA Debate Forum
by Ms Qiu, Head of Modern Languages
On November 16th, participants gathered at the prestigious Oriental Pearl Academy in Guangzhou's Shamian district for the highly anticipated Greater Bay Area Debate Forum. The event was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Chinese culture, with passionate discussions conducted in Chinese. The competition was fierce, with the top three spots being awarded after intense debates.
We are thrilled to share that our student, Ryan in Year 9 from LEH Foshan, proudly won third place, while Angela Y10 also achieved an impressive ranking in the top eight. This success is a testament to their dedication and skill.
The event featured 32 talented participants from across the Greater Bay Area, including cities like Guangzhou, Foshan, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Huizhou, and Zhongshan. It was an excellent platform for fostering cultural exchange and intellectual growth.
We are incredibly proud of Ryan and Angela for their remarkable achievements and look forward to supporting them in future competitions. With their determination and passion, we are confident they will continue to shine!
Bring Your Mums to School Day
by Dr Kirk, Head of Academics
At the start of the week, groups of intrepid mums of Year 7 students came into school to experience a day in the (school) life of their child. Phones should have been handed in at reception - although there were some exceptions to this room - and a special tutor room was made available to them. The lift was used for the first and last time in the day to get to the third floor, and mums were given a timetable and an exercise book to get them through the day. Six lessons, two breaks, one lunch and one Extra Curricular Activity lay ahead, with the promise, from some departments at least, of House Points, for good work.
Obviously, with only one day in school, it was impossible to visit all their child's classes, but most timetables covered a wide range of subjects. Maths, Science, English and Mandarin are almost daily for Year 7, and there were also opportunities to take part in Drama, PE, Spanish and other non-core subjects. Break and lunchtime provided a chance to rest and regroup before the rest of the day's activities and a feedback session was arranged with Mrs Arden to discuss their and their child's day.
The school would like to offer huge thanks to those parents who had the time to participate in this activity; hopefully it gave them a better idea of the demands placed on their child throughout the school day, and we really appreciated the feedback that the parents provided.
