Ms Davy

Dr Kirk

Letter from the Headteacher
Mrs Jane Arden
Headteacher
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to what promises to be a very busy but exciting term. At LEH Foshan, we believe that the partnership between parents and the school is vital to creating a thriving and supportive educational environment. Our Parent Committee plays a crucial role in fostering this partnership, serving as a bridge between the school and families. They help organise events, provide feedback, and work alongside staff to ensure the school reflects the needs and aspirations of our diverse community.
First Parent Committee & School Senior Leadership Team Meeting this School Year
We encourage all parents to take an active part in the school community, whether through the Parent Committee or by engaging in school events and activities. Your involvement not only enriches your child’s experience but also strengthens the sense of connection within our school. Together, we can create an inspiring and nurturing environment that supports every student in reaching their full potential.
Have a great weekend!
Best Regards
Mrs Arden

Weekly E-Safety Tips

Computer Science
by Ms Davy, Head of Computer Science
E-safety
Here at LEH we take E-safety very seriously and we want our students to be good digital citizens. All students in Years 7, 8 & 9 learn about staying safe online and being safe, responsible users of technology. We teach all students about the importance of using technology in positive ways and how to keep themselves safe when working and playing in the digital world. We are aware that students have to make the right choices and decisions when they are online, and we discuss different scenarios and how best to navigate the issues that may arise. The lessons cover areas such as smartphones, gaming, digital addiction, digital citizenship, social media, respectful communication, using laptops, digital health, digital footprints and cyberbullying.
VEX IQ Robotics
As a school we have recently invested in VEX IQ Robotics equipment. We know that robotics and AI are the future and so it is important that our students develop their robotics skills. We have a new dedicated Robotics Lab where students will be designing, creating, building, controlling and programming robots to solve set challenges and problems. As well as developing their robotics skills they will be working in teams developing the 8C’s, especially curiosity, collaboration, communication, creativity, commitment, confidence and craftmanship. We will be selecting robotics teams that will be able to compete locally in Guangdong and nationally in China.
Esports
Exciting times are ahead at LEH as we have recently invested in creating an Esports room for students to come together and game in a safe environment. By integrating Esports into the school’s ECA program, we are giving students the opportunity to participate in gaming and take on roles of responsibility in a fun and engaging way.
Gaming is incredibly popular amongst kids and adults alike. It is more than a way to pass the time; it is deeply embedded in our culture, and the gaming industry is booming. Giving students the opportunity to game in an educational setting allows us to help them develop essential life skills like teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking in a relatable way. In addition, it may also encourage students to explore career opportunities within the gaming and technology industry.
By embracing Esports, LEH is not only staying ahead of educational trends but also providing students with a platform to develop themselves. As we continue to support their growth, we look forward to the many successes and opportunities that Esports will bring to our school.
Upcoming Competitions
BEBRAS is a competition run by The University of Oxford scheduled for the 4th to 15th November 2024. Students from KS3 to KS5 will participate in this school wide computational thinking challenge.
COBIS and Daigon are running an Esports Gaming competition scheduled to run on the 5th to 25th November select students to participate in this competition.
Music
by Mr Hobourn, Director of Music
A final reminder of Ms An Na's Piano Masterclass on Monday 28th October, at 18.15 in the Hanbury Theatre. This is open to all students (borders and day students), who have achieved ABRSM or equivalent Grade 5 or above. There are only three places available now. For the students, taking part in a masterclass is an invaluable opportunity to learn technical, communication, and performance skills from an outstanding teacher from Hong Kong. If you would like your child to take part please contact Ms Kitty or Mr Hobourn as soon as possible.
Before the Masterclass at 5.00pm, Ms An Na will present a Piano/Violin Concert. All parents are warmly invited to the concert, which will last around 45 minutes. Further details will follow.

PTC
by Dr Kirk, Head of Academics
Next week, Wednesday 16th October, sees the first Parent Consultation meetings of the current academic year. Students in Years 7, 8 and 9, along with their parents, are encouraged to discuss their progress to date and look ahead to the upcoming KS3 assessments. Individual schedules will be distributed at the start of next week and I would urge parents to stick to the five-minute limit for appointments, to ensure that the afternoon runs smoothly. If more time is required, then further discussions can be arranged with the relevant members of staff.
The afternoon runs from the start of period 6 (14:45) until the end of ECA2 (18:00) and, as the number of staff has increased, and the Events Suite is no longer large enough to fit everyone in – especially with the Holles Gallery now in operation – meetings will take place in teaching rooms on the fourth and fifth floor.
More information and individual timetables will be distributed electronically and we look forward to welcoming you to meet your child’s teachers and discuss their start to the new academic year.
