In the rural areas of China, Spain, and Mexico, the rich natural landscapes and cultural heritage are facing challenges of population decline and aging due to urbanization. The exhibition "Warp and Weft: Weaving Rural Territories" explores how architecture intertwines with rural communities to generate momentum for rural development. The exhibition raises several issues regarding rural construction, such as building connections with communities, renewing traditions, and revitalizing the pulse and vitality of communities. As part of the exhibition, we will continue to discuss these topics in the roundtable forum.
The Nov.6th roundtable will examine sustainable strategies showcased in various rural scenarios, focusing on the utilization of local materials, the incorporation of traditional construction techniques, and the promotion of architectural innovation. It will address how these approaches enhance the resilience of rural communities in the face of challenges such as climate change and depopulation. Additionally, the panel will discuss emerging trends in rural architecture that seamlessly blend innovation with respect for tradition, exploring topics such as the reinterpretation of ancient construction methods, the integration of technology in design and construction, and the adaptation of rural spaces for new ways of living and working in the 21st century.
