Demand response and energy storage are the key tools for achieving balance between the demand and supply in a power system that is dominated by intermittent renewable energy sources. Increasing role of active distributed and demand side resources will change some of the key fundaments of the design and operation of distribution networks and power systems. Hence, studying the integration of demand response and energy storage has high societal relevance.
The aim of this special issue is to provide overview of the state-of-the-art and beyond in the case of system integration of the demand response and energy storage. Special issue will cover research and review articles from academia and industry, including proof-of-concept and pilot studies, covering technical, social, and economical aspects of the demand response and energy storage system integration.
Topics for this call for papers include but not restricted to:
Novel methods for forecasting and optimization of demand response and storage in power systems. This includes AI tools in above mentioned themes.
Demand response and storage in modelling of power systems and networks
Uncertainty handling in demand response and storage energy management
Demand response and energy storage related case studies and proof-of-concepts
Value of demand response and energy storage integration for different stakeholders
Benefits and barriers of demand response and storage integration
Socio-economic welfare of demand response and energy storage integration
Aspectes related to customer behaviour and the engagement of customers in demand response
Demand response and energy storage related business models
Policies and regulations for energy storage integration in power systems and networks
Topics that this Special Issue will not cover:
Papers focusing solely on energy storage technologies (e.g. battery chemistry)
Materials research
Papers focusing solely on power electronics or communication systems for demand response and storage
