On September 6, 2024, the "International Tour Exhibition of Chinese Traditional Fine Arts - Jakarta Station: New Rhythm of Maritime Silk Road", Shanghai Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition" officially opened at the National Gallery of Indonesia, a cultural landmark in Jakarta. This exhibition is part of a prestigious international cultural exchange program, awarded the "Silver Dove Award" by the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee's Publicity Department and the Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office for the "Cultural China Going Global" initiative. It marks the fourth stop of the International Tour of Traditional Chinese Art, following exhibitions in Alexandria, Egypt; Istanbul, Turkey; and Bratislava, Slovakia.

China and Indonesia share a long-standing history of friendly exchanges, with the ancient Maritime Silk Road closely linking the two nations. Indonesia is where President Xi Jinping first proposed the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road" initiative and continues to play a vital role in the Belt and Road Initiative. 2024 marks the beginning of a shared future between China and Indonesia, as well as the China-ASEAN Year of People-to-People Exchanges. Additionally, In 2025, we will celebrate the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia. As Indonesia's political and economic center, Jakarta is home to the headquarters of ASEAN and plays a significant role in Asia, while also a sister city of Shanghai.

This international tour exhibition of Chinese traditional fine arts is jointly organized by the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism and the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Indonesia. It is co-hosted by the Shanghai Art Collection Museum, Shanghai Mass Art Center (Shanghai Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center), Shanghai Arts Research Center, and Shanghai Art & Design Academy. The exhibition has received substantial support from the Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai, The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology(MoECRT) of the Republic of Indonesia, the Consulate General of Indonesia in Shanghai, the Jakarta Municipal Government, the National Gallery of Indonesia, the Shanghai Magnolia Foundation, Shanghai Printing Group, and Shanghai Juyuan Cultural Development Co., Ltd.
The National Gallery of Indonesia, under The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology(MoECRT) of the Republic of Indonesia,is an iconic and important cultural venue in Indonesia. Since its establishment, the gallery has been dedicated to promoting art, with a collection that includes modern and contemporary paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, digital media art, and innovative works of Indonesia's intangible cultural heritage. The gallery regularly organizes large-scale exhibitions and educational programs, playing a pivotal role in the promotion of Indonesian culture and arts.
The Cultural Landmark of Jakarta — National Gallery of Indonesia
Themed "New Rhythms of Maritime Silk Road," the exhibition is divided into four sections: "Beauty in Crafting - A Selection of Shanghai Art and Crafts," "Marvel of the East - Handicrafts of Shanghai Style," "Art of Peking Opera - A Selection of Chinese Theatre Art," and "Painting of Life and Nostalgia - A Selection of Shanghai Farmers’ Paintings." The exhibition showcases nearly 100 exquisite works from Shanghai's intangible cultural heritage preservation units and inheritors. Featured displays will include traditional Shanghai peasant paintings, opera arts, fine crafts, movable type printing, woodblock printing, embroidery, grass and bamboo weaving, Chinese frog button making, and paper-cutting, all of which reflect the unique characteristics of Shanghai's cultural heritage
