一直到汉武帝的时候，才规定把春天的第一个月作为一年的开头，就这么一直用到清朝末年。
When the Han Dynasty was first established, it still used the calendar of the Qin Dynasty. It was not until the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty that the first month of spring was stipulated as the beginning of the year, and this was used until the end of the Qing Dynasty.
辛亥革命成功后，为了方便农业生产，也为了统计方便，就决定采用公历，在民国元年（也就是 1912 年实际开始用），把阳历的 1 月 1 日叫做“新年”，不过当时还不叫“元旦”。

In the first year of the Republic of China (actually used in 1912), January 1st of the solar calendar was called "New Year", but it was not called "New Year's Day" at that time.
到了 1949 年，新中国成立了，就把公历的 1 月 1 日正式定为元旦，从那以后，元旦就成了全国老百姓都欢庆的节日。
In 1949, when New China was founded, January 1st of the Gregorian calendar was officially designated as New Year's Day. Since then, New Year's Day has become a festival celebrated by the people across the country.
