All Hallows' Day"!
His birthday is on All Saints' Day.
Halloween culture can be traced back to the Druids, a Celtic culture in Ireland, Britain and Northern Europe. Roots lay in the feast of Samhain, which was annually on October 31st to honor the dead.
More than 2,000 years ago, the Celtics thought that October 31st was the day when autumn officially ended. After that, the weather became more and more severe, and it was winter and the beginning of the New Year.
Hallow in Halloween means "saint". They believe that the gate between life and death will open on this night, and the spirits of the deceased will return to their former homes to seek the holy spirit in the living. The dead can occupy the body of the living to be reborn, while the living are afraid that the dead will take their own bodies, so they dress up as monsters to scare away the dead.
The tradition of the Jack o’ Lantern comes from a folktale about a man named Jack who tricked the devil and had to wander the Earth with a lantern.
The Celts carved faces into vegetables like turnips, potatoes and squash to scare the ghosts and other spirits and make them go away. Irish people who came to live in the United States in the 1800s found pumpkins much easier to carve, and the tradition became the one we see today.
Trick-or-treating is a modern Halloween custom where children go from house to house dressed in costume, asking for treats like candy or toys. If they don't get any treats, they might play a trick (mischief or prank) on the owners of the house.
3. 盛装打扮 dress in costume
One of the most popular traditions of Halloween is dressing in a costume. People often dress up as monsters, superheroes, celebrities, or characters from their favorite movies and TV shows. Popular Halloween costumes include vampires (creatures that drink blood), ghosts (spirits of the dead) and werewolves (people that turn into wolves when the moon is full).
Many people throw Halloween parties with themes such as horror, monsters, or spooky decorations. People often decorate their homes and yards with Halloween-themed decorations, such as fake spiders, cobwebs, skeletons, and Halloween-themed lights and signs.
