Mrs Kirk

Mr Nelson

Ms Hayward

Inktober (Ink+October)

Letter from the Headteacher

Mrs Jane Arden

Headteacher

Dear Parents,

Founder’s Day is fast approaching, and we are excited to invite the entire LEH Foshan community to come together in celebration! This special day is a chance for students, staff, and parents to unite and honour the values that make our school unique. The day will feature an exhilarating House Music Competition and a spirited House Sports Competition, where students will showcase their talents and teamwork, reflecting our 8Cs — communication, commitment, curiosity, collaboration, craftsmanship, compassion, confidence, and reativity. We look forward to a memorable day of celebration and community spirit!

Sixth Form

by Mrs Kirk, Head of Sixth Form

The New Sixth Form Centre

LEH Foshan is delighted that this year the school has opened a new area dedicated to Sixth Form study. There are more intimate classrooms where students can collaborate and work with teachers in an area designed particularly for their needs. There are two private study areas and I have been delighted to see students really making the most of these to review and develop their learning. The rooms are decorated with posters to help remind students how to study effectively.

Of course, we also want our students to relax and there is a social area for students to chat, have a snack (the students also have a fully functioning kitchen area) and enjoy some board games or table football.

In other events we are thrilled that Aleesa from Y13 took part in a rugby tournament last week. Her team won the event!

It is important that LEH Foshan is up to date with all changes and improvements in education and so teachers are regularly encouraged to go on professional development courses. Recently Ms Steven and I attended a Cambridge Counsellors workshop where we heard about changes in the Canadian University entrance application process, we also heard from the representative for the French embassy who showcased the over 1000 undergraduate courses offered in English at many French universities.  A representative from Australia explained how culturally diverse their universities have become; how they are working towards rolling out an easier application process and how there is more emphasis on students’ mental health in universities across the country.

Year 12 have been invited to apply to complete an IPQ. The International Project Qualification (IPQ) is a valuable part of students’ learning for several reasons:

  • Skill Development: IPQ helps students develop higher-order thinking skills such as analysis, evaluation, and synthesis.

  • Independent Learning: The process encourages students to become independent learners, capable of managing their own projects and making decisions.

  • University and Career Preparation: Completing an IPQ can make students stand out in university and job applications by demonstrating their ability to engage deeply with a subject beyond standard exam preparation.

Each student has also been given a booklet to help them collate their ideas and achievements so that they can build up a picture of themselves ready to produce a meaningful personal statement for their university applications.

It is never too early to consider career choices. Students can attend career days online taking place online over the next couple of months. Career days give students an insight into different careers that might appeal to them, advice on subject choices and how to apply to university, followed by work experience in the afternoon to help them see what the career may be like. Students receive a certificate confirming their work experience.

Students who are aged 13-18 can register to join the online days by visiting www.careerdays.co.uk

The schedule is as follows:

  • Midwifery Career Day - Saturday 21st September 2024

  • Medicine Career Day - Saturday 5th October 2024

  • Dentistry Career Day - Sunday 6th October 2024

  • Business Career Day - Saturday 12th October 2024

  • Psychology Career Day - Saturday 19th October 2024

  • Architect Career Day - Saturday 26th October 2024

  • Performing Arts Career Day - Sunday 27th October 2024

  • Law Career Day - Saturday 2nd November 2024

  • Vet Career Day - Saturday 9th November 2024

  • Computer Science Career Day - Saturday 23rd November 2024

  • Engineering & Technology Career Day - Saturday 30th November 2024

Students and Parents can visit www.careerdays.co.uk to join a session that interests them and will receive a certificate at the end of the day confirming their work experience.

ECAs

by Mr Nelson, ECA Coordinator

The Extracurricular Activities (ECA) Programme is designed to foster holistic development by offering a broad range of activities split into five dynamic categories, each targeting a different aspect of personal growth. At LEH we continue to develop our facilities to help with our ECA programme. The recently installed e-sports suite and media room are excellent facilities offering our students a place to use state of the art equipment during their ECA time. These facilities are in addition to our now well established golf simulator to give our students an excellent opportunity to enjoy the ECA programme.

Academic ECAs are dedicated to stimulating the mind and expanding intellectual horizons. Whether through competitive debate, coding clubs, or maths competition practices, these activities challenge students to think critically, solve problems, and deepen their knowledge outside the classroom.

Sports ECAs focus on physical development and well-being, encouraging students to engage their bodies through various athletic activities. From team sports like basketball, football, swimming and rugby to individual pursuits like yoga and golf, the goal is to build strength, coordination, and resilience while promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Service ECAs provide opportunities to give back to the community. These activities cultivate empathy and social responsibility, offering students a chance to engage in meaningful volunteer work, environmental initiatives, and charitable efforts. Service projects not only benefit the community but also help students develop leadership and teamwork skills.

Global ECAs emphasise relaxation and rejuvenation. These activities aim to help students unwind and manage stress, offering a blend of cultural exploration, mindfulness practices, and leisure activities. From classical film clubs to international cultural appreciation, the Global category focuses on restoring balance and promoting mental well-being.

Creative ECAs inspire students to tap into their artistic potential and explore various forms of self-expression. Whether through visual arts, drama, music, or writing, these activities nurture creative energy, enabling students to experiment, innovate, and discover new talents.

This well-rounded ECA programme ensures that every student finds their niche, promoting personal growth across mind, body, and spirit.

Inktober

by Ms Hayward, Head of Art and Head of the Creative Arts Faculty

The Art Department are delighted to announce the commencement of Inktober at LEH Foshan. Throughout the month of October, our talented students will be showcasing their creativity and dedication by participating in the Inktober challenge.

Inktober is an annual artistic event that encourages artists to create and share one ink drawing each day for the entire month. It celebrates skill, imagination, and artistic growth. This commitment will require students to complete their drawings even during the Golden week holiday, with an easy uploading process for their work.

To recognise students hard work and outstanding contributions, we will be be giving out awards and  will showcase a selection of exceptional Inktober drawings and honour those students who have demonstrated remarkable skills, creativity, and commitment throughout the challenge.
