阅读是什么What is reading?

      大多数人认为自己知道阅读是什么。毕竟,人人都能读懂手机或电脑屏幕上的消息。然而,并非如此,阅读有时既晦涩,又复杂。阅读不是简单地认字,而是要断其意,断文字和图案之意。(跃动在纸上的文字和图案都传递着它们应有的意义。)

Most people believe they know what reading is. After all, everyone can understand the messages on their phone or computer screens. However, reading is not always that simple—it can be both obscure and complex. Reading is not merely recognizing words but understanding their meaning, as well as the meaning of images. (The words and images that dance on the paper convey the meanings they are intended to.)

第一步:读懂图案  

Step 1: Understanding Symbols

      你可以读懂这些标识吗?Can you recognise the sign ?


      让孩子尽可能多地看不同的图案、图标。接触地越多,孩子对于图案特点的理解就越深刻。毕竟,图标无处不在!

Expose children to as many different signs and symbols as possible. The more they see, the deeper their understanding of the characteristics of symbols becomes. After all, symbols are everywhere!


第二步:理解语言

Step 2: Language Comprehension

       如果不理解词语的含义,我们将无法高效地阅读。日常的对话中,我们每天都在使用语言。然而,让孩子们接触一门新语言,唱歌、读诗,讲故事是很高效的方法。

If we don't understand the meaning of words, we cannot read efficiently. In everyday conversations, we use language all the time. However, introducing children to a new language through singing, poetry, and storytelling is a highly effective way to help them grasp the meaning of words.

第三步:了解世界是如何运作的

Step 3: Learning How the World Works

      如果我们希望孩子学习阅读,多阅读,或是阅读不同题材/难度大 的文字,给他们足够多的实践体验,认识世界,将会有极大的帮助。If we want children to read more, or to read texts of varying genres and difficulty, giving them enough hands-on experience with the world will greatly help.

      在幼儿园阶段,阅读可以分为常规阅读和指导阅读,它们在培养幼儿阅读兴趣和能力方面各有侧重。在K1,孩子们会开始培养阅读习惯,每天进行常规阅读,例如有故事时间和自由阅读;除此之外,K2和K3每周会进行固定时间的中英文指导阅读!

In kindergarten, reading can be divided into routine reading and guided reading, each focusing on different aspects of developing a child's reading interest and abilities.In K1, children begin to develop reading habits, engaging in routine reading daily, such as storytime and free reading. In addition, K2 and K3 students will have scheduled guided reading sessions in both Chinese and English every week!


在家如何支持阅读?

How to Support Reading at Home

      营造舒适的阅读空间:为家人或自己设置一个安静、舒适的阅读角,有足够的光线和舒适的座椅,让阅读成为放松的享受。

Create a comfortable reading space: Set up a quiet, cozy reading corner with adequate lighting and comfortable seating for yourself or your family, making reading a relaxing pleasure.

      定期购置书籍:为家里储备各种类型的书籍,涵盖文学、科普、历史等不同领域,激发对阅读的兴趣。可以根据兴趣选择书籍,也可以去图书馆借书。

Purchase books regularly: Stock up on a variety of books at home, covering literature, science, history, and other fields, to spark an interest in reading. You can choose books based on interests or borrow from the library.

      设立家庭阅读时间:每天或每周安排固定的时间,关闭电子设备,专注于阅读。不论是独自阅读还是一起读书讨论,都有助于形成良好的阅读习惯。

Set family reading time: Allocate time daily or weekly to turn off electronic devices and focus on reading. Whether reading alone or discussing books together, it helps develop good reading habits.

      成为榜样:家长或家庭成员主动阅读,给孩子树立榜样。孩子看到大人喜欢阅读,会更有可能模仿并培养阅读兴趣。

Be a role model: Parents or family members should take the initiative to read, setting a positive example. Children who see adults enjoying reading are more likely to imitate and develop an interest in it.

      讨论与分享:鼓励家庭成员分享他们读到的有趣内容,讨论书中的情节和角色,甚至进行简单的读书会活动,这能让阅读变得更加有趣和互动。

Discuss and share: Encourage family members to share interesting content from their reading, discuss the plot and characters in books, or even hold simple book club activities. This makes reading more fun and interactive.

      提供多样化的阅读材料:除了书籍,还可以提供杂志、报纸、电子书等,满足不同兴趣和需求,拓宽阅读的范围。

Provide diverse reading materials: Besides books, offer magazines, newspapers, e-books, etc., to meet different interests and broaden the scope of reading.



      为孩子创造一个支持阅读的氛围,让阅读成为日常生活的一部分,愿我们都在阅读中收获不一样的成长。

By creating a supportive atmosphere for reading, making it a part of daily life, we hope everyone can experience unique growth through reading.
