卷二·金世成 Volume II: Jin Shicheng
金世成，长山人，素不检。Jin Shicheng, a native of Changshan, was known for his lack of discipline.
金世成是长山县的居民，平日里放浪形骸、行为不检。
忽出家作头陀，类颠，啖不洁以为美。犬羊遗秽于前，辄伏啖之。Suddenly, he left home to become a mendicant monk, behaving like a madman, and found delight in consuming filth. When dogs and sheep left excrement in front of him, he would kneel down and eat it.
后来他突然间出家做了行脚和尚，行为疯疯癫癫，竟然把脏东西当成美味来吃。每当有狗或羊在他面前排泄，他都趴在地上去吞食。
自号为佛。愚民妇异其所为，执弟子礼者以万千计。He proclaimed himself a Buddha. Foolish commoners, especially women, were amazed by his actions, and thousands became his disciples, treating him with utmost reverence.
他自称为佛，那些愚昧的男女看他所作所为异于常人，就以弟子的身份去侍候他，这种人有成千上万。
金诃使食矢，无敢违者。创殿阁，所费不赀，人咸乐输之。Jin would order his followers to eat excrement, and none dared to disobey. He built temples and halls, spending vast sums of money, yet people were willing to donate generously.
金世成呵斥这些弟子去吃屎，竟无人敢违抗。金世成建造了殿堂楼阁，花费的金钱不计其数，人们却都愿意捐献。
邑令南公恶其怪，执而笞之，使修圣庙。The local magistrate, Lord Nan, disgusted by his bizarre behavior, had him arrested and flogged, then ordered him to repair the Confucian temple.
县令南公厌恶金世成的怪僻行径，就把他抓起来，用竹板子打他，让他修缮孔圣人的庙宇。
门人竞相告曰：“佛遭难！”争募救之。His disciples spread the word, saying, "The Buddha is in trouble!" and they competed to raise funds to rescue him.
金世成的弟子们知道后，纷纷奔走相告，声称“佛遭难了！”他们争先恐后地筹资援救。
宫殿旬月而成，其金钱之集，尤捷于酷吏之追呼也。The temple was completed within a month, and the speed at which money was gathered surpassed even the efficiency of harsh tax collectors.
宫殿仅一个月就修缮一新，所募集的资金之巨大、速度之迅速，甚至超过了严酷官吏的勒索。
异史氏曰：The Historian of the Strange remarks:
异史氏说：
“予闻金道人，人皆就其名而呼之，谓为‘今世成佛’。品至啖秽，极矣。"I have heard of Jin the Daoist, whom people called by his name, referring to him as 'the Buddha of the present world.' His behavior, reaching the extreme of consuming filth, was extremely base.
我听说金道人，人们都就他名字的谐音称他“今世成佛”。其人品到了吃喝污秽的地步，低到了极点。
笞之不足辱，罚之适有济，南令公处法何良也！Flogging him was not enough to shame him, and punishing him only served to further his cause. Magistrate Nan's handling of the situation was indeed skillful!
痛打不足以折辱他，处罚恰巧可以成就一件事业，南令公的处理方法是多么妙啊！
然学宫圮而烦妖道，亦士大夫之羞矣。”However, it is a disgrace to the scholar-officials that the Confucian temple fell into disrepair and had to be restored by such a demonic figure."
不过，孔庙的塌坏竟然要靠妖道来修整，这也是士大夫的耻辱啊！
